2021 Wesley Cardet lands his second offer in as many days, this time from Rick Pitino and Iona.

Lengthy guard with wiggle, perimeter shotmaking ability and outstanding vision.

True or false: Rick Pitino is still actively employed (i.e. still coaching and not on paid administrative leave) by Iona on January 1st, 2021.

That’s a very good question I’m going to say true. They knew what they were getting into with him, so you gotta stand by your man

That is what I am leaning towards too. I have no idea how Slick Rick managed to avoid level 1 violations and the inevitable show cause that comes with them. If he just gets hit with a lengthy suspension I think they'll suck it up and stand by him though.

Kansas native Tamar Bates is ranked amongst the Top-100 juniors in the entire country, No. 3 player in the state. He’s found himself slotted as one of the seven best combo-guards in the nation and has garnered a national recruitment.

“Kansas, Creighton, OSU, Mizzou, Northwestern, North Carolina, Colorado, Alabama, OU, Villanova, Oregon, Michigan,” are the programs heavily involved Bates told Stockrisers.com.

As far as those schools go, the newest ones included on that list are Oregon, Villanova and Michigan. I fully expect his list of programs to go, especially during these times.

And, speaking of these times, our world is going through a major crisis with the Coronavirus, which has ultimately taken away physical visits for recruits and made things visual. Bates has used this new tool with programs.

“I’ve only had them with Creighton & Oklahoma, but I have another wth Northwestern this Friday the 17th.” The Sooners would end up offering Bates during his virtual visit with the program, becoming the newest school with a scholarship.

When timetables became the topic, Bates said that he hopes he could announce his college decision before his senior season starts but that can’t happen until he cuts his list down in which ‘Won’t happen until I take official visits’ Bates said.

Nate Oats’ inaugural campaign in Tuscaloosa didn’t end on a good note. Alabama finished just one game above .500 and saw its top two wings, John Petty and Herb Jones, enter their names into the 2020 NBA Draft. At least one is expected to return but, either way, the Tide should be optimistic for next season thanks to its incoming class.

The top newcomer might actually be a graduate-transfer in Yale’s Jordan Bruner who should answer its interior needs. Former McDonald’s All-American Jahvon Quinerly will see the floor again, and will be aided by two versatile wing-forwards in Darius Miles and Keon Ambrose-Hylton. Junior college standout Keon Ellis will provide for another shot-maker along the perimeter, but it is Josh Primo who could raise their ceiling for success. If he provides the perimeter versatility that he has been good for in the past, playmakes when asked upon, and hits shots whenever allotted, the Tide should be back in the NCAA Tournament after a minor hiatus the past two years.

One prediction that has been widely shared in the recruiting industry since the pandemic hit has been that we’ll see more recruits stay closer to home in the 2021 class than we’ve seen in the past several years. We’re already starting to see that scenario play out.

In the 2021 Rivals150, 36 prospects have already made verbal commitments. Of those 36 commitments, 20 have opted for a school in their home state. Of the remaining 16 prospects, eight of them are going to a school in state bordering their home state. Additionally, Seton Hall commit Ryan Conway is going to a school less than 200 miles from home. That means 80.6% of the current committed prospects inside the 2021 Rivals150 are going to schools in their home state, a bordering state or a school less than 200 miles away.

Not a great sign for us. After Davison the in state class is pretty terrible, and we have, at best, sporadic success in Georgia and Mississippi. We are probably going to have to hit Florida pretty hard.

Can't say I disagree with any of that. I think he stands a much better chance at becoming a good facilitator than a good ball handler though. Petty seems to have decent court vision and awareness. He just doesn't dribble low enough to the ground to have a tight handle. I guess he could work on that, but I just don't see it happening. As you said though, his biggest problem is a lack of ideal size. He's a first round, possibly lottery, pick if he's 6'8".

I don't think size is his problem, but rather his inability to create his own shot with efficiency.

James Harden doesn't play a lick of defense but can create offensively as well as anyone. Klay Thompson is a good defender, which Petty can be, but Thompson can spot up or back people down or drive and shoot - which Petty has not shown an ability to do at a high level yet.

If Petty can develop into a more efficient playmaker he will do just fine at the next level. He's already got the shot, he just has to be able to get it off against quicker and longer competition.

Just for context: Harden never shot 40% from 3 in college, closer to 35%. And, Thompson shot just under 40% his last year at Washington St. at 39.8%.

The SEC has half the league in the top 19 in the @247Sports college basketball recruiting rankings for next season, with 10 teams in the top 35. And that’s without factoring in transfers:

UK - 1
Tennessee - 4
LSU - 5
Arkansas - 6
Auburn - 8
Texas A&M - 16
Alabama - 19

Our class is Top 10 IMO if they correctly factored in International Kids, Transfer, and Jucos

Not sure how high it would climb, but it would certainly be better than 19. Either way and regardless of any rankings, the roster is set up for more success than it was last year and that is true even if Petty doesn't return imo.

I'd imagine Ellis did factor in. They rank JuCo kids. I'm not sure how they would go about ranking grad transfers for recruiting purposes. Thd main gripe we should have is Primo probably ending up 20-30 spots lower on the composite rankings than he should be because ESPN is too lazy and incompetent to evaluate Canadians.

Pay attention to 2021 6-foot-6 point guard Wesley Cardet Jr.

The Northeast (FL) junior just picked up three offers this week from Iona, Kansas State and Maryland.

Iona is a program he likes due to their, “legendary coach with ties to the NBA,” he explained, and Kansas State is somewhere he see’s potential.

“I know that [Head] coach [Bruce] Weber is a good coach and a tough coach who believes in defense,” he said. “They didn’t have a good season this year, but I expect them to bounce back next year especially with the arrival of Selton [Miguel].”

Iona, Kansas State, Alabama, UMKC, Samford and Maryland are also recruiting him. Baylor, North Carolina State, Tulsa and VCU have reached out recently.

Most programs like his competitiveness, his ability to play both guard spots and his size at the position. He can do a little bit of everything on offense, but also lock up on defense.

Coaches have expressed exactly that when communicating to Cardet about his game, and that’s why I anticipate more programs will get involved in the near future.

“Coaches like my size at my position,” he said. “They like that I’m a big guard, playmaker and my court vision at 6-foot-6. I can also defend smaller guards.”
