I am a lot more optimistic John Petty returns than when he declared. I was told not to expect him back when he did. Now I am leaning towards him coming back

How is the rotation gonna look? I mean we are DEEEP
I would guess Miles, Reese, and Javian/Galin(whichever stays) would be odd guys out. Maybe Ambrose too

Sure seems a lot more likely lately just reading tea leaves on twitter.

I think he is in the same spot Bruner was in. Probably needed to put on some good workouts to get drafted and the CoronaVirus stopped all that.

John Petty: 'My time might not be up' with #Alabama basketball team

quote:
“Basically just some good feedback from some NBA scouts, some of my coaches and also just by the year I had -- I know I had a great year,” Petty told Chambers. “I know that in previous years I could have tried it, so this year, I just thought that it would be best if I just tried and put my name in there and see what I get.”
quote:
“It’s just a great atmosphere down there, the city, everything,” Petty said of playing for the Tide. “The coaches were good last year. It just felt like home. Even though I wasn’t that far from home, I was two hours away, Tuscaloosa felt like a home for me. So, my time there was amazing. Even though the situation I’m in now, my time might not be up there.
“I’ll probably be up there another year, depending on how everything else goes, but I’m just really trying to finish this semester out the best way I can.”

If Petty comes back what's our starting 5 & who are the next 5 off the deepest bench ever at Bama?

Man, if Petty comes back this team would have an immense ceiling as long we avoid the injury catastrophe last season was.
I'm already pretty optimistic but adding Petty would mean that we're not even counting on a majority of the first year guys without high level experience to be good right away.

This would cause my pregame anxiety to drop dramatically
Those are nice

I think that might be the capstone kid. He’s changed his name so many times that I’m not sure. He’s awful and a fake insider.

If John Petty does come back, there is only one decision Nate Oats has to make. But, it’s a HUGE decision. The starting SG, is it Jaden Shackelford or Josh Primo?
I think you gotta go Shackelford here. 3 reasons...
1. Are you going to bench a sophomore after he started as a True Freshman and made the All-SEC Freshman team? Unlikely.
2. Shackelford averaged 15 PPG last season, he was our 2nd leading scorer behind Kira. If Kira leaves, Shackelford is the #1 returning scorer. I don’t see a scenario where Shackelford doesn’t start.
3. We don’t have a true PG behind Jahvon Quinerly, & Primo is most equipped to get those minutes. Although he wouldn’t start, he’d be the true 6th man, being the first one off the bench at PG, SG, & SF. Primo would still get 25+ minutes per game coming off the bench.
I got it like this..
PG: Jahvon Quinerly/Josh Primo
SG: Jaden Shackelford/Keon Ellis
SF: John Petty/Juwan Gary/Darius Miles
PF: Herbert Jones/Keon Ambrose-Hylton/James Rojas
C: Jordan Bruner/Javian Davis/Alex Reese
