Players do make good coaches but a head coach who doesn't know what he's doing will have a team losing lots of games regardless of the talent. We finally have a coaching staff who have a long term plan.Reminds me so much of the long term vision Saban brought compared to Shula's ineptitude game planning & recruiting.

Oats is the best thing that ever happened to Petty. Hopefully we continue to see players develop like he has.

So everyone thought Reese was a hidden gem in that class and would turn out to be a stud. So far, not even close. Any chance he sees the clock running out and flips a switch and becomes the NBA prospect everyone was projecting? I'd really be ok with him being encouraged to move on but at the same time, if he transfers then blows up on the court, I will be pissed we didn't get anything out of him. What do y'all think is more likely, boom or bust?

As Shaq says, BBQ Chicken.

Reese is done, folks. Someone post that great line on here a few weeks ago, about a vagina with a heartbeat or something. That explained Reese perfectly

I don't remember many people projecting him to be an NBA player. I do remember people thinking he'd be better than his ranking, and could present mismatches. I think he's been about what he was ranked as being, so far. I don't think he's going to turn into an superstar, but I think he can have a better year than he had this year. Unfortunately, he's just slow footed and I think sometimes his lack of ability looks more like laziness than it is. I do think he has a tendency to play soft, but I don't think it's because he doesn't want to try. He got a power forward body but a spot up shooter disposition. But, in the middle of the season, when he was healthy, he had some big games where he got tough rebounds, and scored inside. He also led the team by a pretty big margin with 30 blocked shots.

I don't see that ever happening, but he can be a decent piece next year if he's healthy and buys in.

So we were able to celebrate having a top 15 class this year for 10 minutes before bringing up how our last good class didn't pan out.

Neither, but I can easily see him being a solid contributor.

Backup PG will be by committee. Primo, Herb, Keon Ellis, and maybe even Miles some.

I can’t complain about the job Oats is doing. He’s really closing strong

Possibly, but I doubt it. Galin is the worst fit for the system. Reese is actually very close to what Oats wants in a 4/5. I'm sure he wishes he was a bit more athletic, but he fits better than Galin. I like Galin, but I think he may be the first out.

Because Idk how long you have been a fan but I’ve been at this shite almost 30 years. I know that when Something good happens to Bama Basketball something bad must not be too far behind. I’m scarred mentally and can’t help it.

Helluva job turning over the roster and upgrading with only 1 defined opening in scholarships.

I agree about giving Reese the benefit of the doubt with his injury this year.

I definitely agree with Teague about there being stretches where he did mix it up and play tougher/hustle a lot more.

However, he does seem to be kind of a low-motor guy and not really as athletic as a lot of players he's up against.

It may make a difference when he seems his minutes tied completely to how much energy he's exerting and that wasn't really an option for Oats this year.

If Oats believes in him, I'm certainly not going to say he couldn't definitely make a good contribution to winning team since we were hard to defend with him at 6'9" out on the perimeter shooting 35% three pointers.

Come home, Luther. Alabama is basically New Jersey and Canada south.

Oats had a solid podcast with Hunter and Cecil. Brought up recruiting and some interesting scheduling stuff.

Nothing personal, but you write off players a little to quickly imo. Just as you did with Herb.

I'm not saying Reese is gonna turn into an NBA draft pick, but I can still envision him contributing a decent amount next season in a limited capacity. He bought in and lost the weight needed for Oats style of play this past season. I think he deserves another year with the surrounding talent we are bringing in.

He's not gonna have a primary role, but, I can see him adding something here or there simply from a mismatch perspective, and his range from deep.

I'm on board with you about Smith. He just doesn't fit this style of play at all. I hate that too cause he has the work ethic.
