If Bama is 12th in the country in threes made in a few years would you guys feel like we had a successful season from a three point perspective?

I would be over the moon.

You’re correct. It’s also true that if you shoot just 10 threes it’s also easier to hit a much lower percentage. Which is why it’s so damn absurd that you believe we should trash a defensive phenom for only hitting 29% of his 21 3PAs last year. Let’s say 1 of his shots that he missed rims in instead of out, that’s 33%. If that happens for 2? 38%.

Herb Jones is not a good 3pt shooter yet, but with Oats encouraging/forcing him to shoot more 3s not only in practices, but in games that will only help grow confidence in his shot. Someone who averages 1 3PA for every 2 games isn’t going to be able to develop any rhythm or confidence.

Very interesting development, thanks for posting it.

If he scored 2 points a game, played great D and didn't turn the ball over I would be fine with that.

Him turning it over 14 times in 4 games playing limited minutes, that I have a problem with. That is a recipe for disaster. If the guy can't dribble he doesn't deserve to be on the floor in an SEC game.

Hopefully he can get it fixed in the offseason, he did show potential as a freshman.

Would depend on what the percentage was.

Percentages don't count as points, made threes do.

Give me the team that shoots 30% from three and makes 10 threes a game over the one that shoots 40% from three and makes 3 a game any day of the week.

the less threes you shoot the easier it is to have a high percentage.

Having a player shoot 45%+ 3FG should be a red flag for shitty coaching. No opponent is going to leave a consistent 45% 3FG shooter open beyond the arc

So either you have a god tier shooter who is draining contested 3s at 45% that you should let shoot every shot

Or more likely

There is a player who opponents are leaving open who you aren't feeding enough for them to rescheme the defense

As I said they were 12th in three pointers made, that is the stat that matters.

Your point can't be that they made the 12th most 3P FG in the country if you also refuse the facts that they took the 9th most 3P FGA in the country and were 222nd in 3P FG% in the country.

Presbyterian had one more attempt, but made 45 more.

Purdue Fort Wayne had 19 less attempts and made 35 more.

Buffalo made a lot of 3P FG because they took more than almost everyone, not because they were better shooters than most.

One out of three is only exceptional in baseball.

Everyone is being dumb AF in here on this argument, talking about it in a vacuum

Buffalo was #62 in eFg%

Even if they didn't make 3s at a high rate, it appears they spaced the floor to make their 2FG better

I think everyone here is excited about the offense that CNO is bringing. But you're confusing that offense's efficiency with great shooting. I expect our players to start shooting more threes and making more threes. The whole point that seems to be going over your head is that Buffalo's players shot a good, but not outstanding average and yet they still scored a ton. That's the point. It's a good thing. And Herb will do fine.

You're picking and choosing teams it applies correctly to.

There are way more teams like Grambling who were had a great team 3 point shooting percentage (5th) yet were 261st in three pointers made and had a terrible team that went 17 and 17.

Which would you ranter be Grambling or Buffalo?

This is pretty common knowledge. No one is refuting that they were a great offensive team. Just that they were not a team with great shooters. The whole argument started when someone, should be obvious who, said they didn’t want Herb here because he sucks and doesn’t fit the bill.

What does this even mean?

They finished 8, 9, and 10 in team 3P FGA.

Can we all agree that we are very happy with our new coach and excited about the coming basketball season?
