The issue this season is talent. Kira, Petty, Herb, Shack are really good...is anyone else on this team even an average college basketball player?

EDIT I forgot Beetle too

I do think it’s more than the players and coaches. This is 3 coaches now who have collapsed down the stretch and 10 years Worth of players. Maybe the Administration isn’t giving us the facilities we need, maybe after we beat LSU it would be nice to play in an arena that isn’t half empty for A&M, Maybe a new smaller arena would give us a better atmosphere when only 9,000 people show up. It would also be nice if Boosters and Donors seats weren’t always half fricking empty

When Oats said change the culture he wasnt talking about just the players. Its everyone.....Players, Coaches, Fans, and Administration.

Some of the players gave a lot of effort. Idk how, Kira, Shack, Petty, or Herb can be blamed for not giving an effort, they have brought it about every game this season.

Beetle is out there trying really hard now that he is healthy too.

You can’t blame them. But you can’t play 4 on 5 the whole game.

Its our bigs who don’t give effort and That kills us. Rebounding is the most important part of the game IMO and our bigs might be the worst in the Power conferences

Galin gives effort but is just bad.
Javian gives it half the time.
Reese is lazy and never gives effort.

Our Guards play hard

Javian gives effort maybe a quarter of the time.

The worst collection of bigs that I’ve ever seen at Alabama. Giddens got shafted because I don’t know how he ended up the odd man out

When your coach is giving you hell on the sidelines and then continues it to the media, then you know the guy is a problem.

I think Giddens would have been decent under Oats. He would have gave us rim protection and rebounding and hopefully Oats would have fixed his fouling issue

We are short handed, dealing with a lot of injuries and half the players we are having to play just aren’t very good. This doesn't mean “every year is the same” or “We might as well of kept Avery, we got the same results”.

We still have some players out there playing their asses off and they deserve support the whole year. I respect the hell out of Kira, Herb, Petty, and Shack for continuing to battle this year when a lot of teams wouldve given up after all the injuries.

No depth off the bench. Bench play is critical late in the season. This team has played pretty well considering the injuries. It’s a major improvement from last year team.

The future looks promising

I would not call Kira a high intensity defender by any stretch of the imagination.

I can't even say I think Shack is a high intensity defender and he is one of my favorite players on the team.

I don't think any coach could fix Giddens fouling issue. Especially with how tight SEC games are called. Still, I'd trade Galin for Giddens in a fricking heartbeat.

I’m in a wait and see mode on this. No blaming Oats, but I just need to see it before I can make any declaration like this

yea, I thought our guards, Kira and Shack looked a little tired vs Vandy. And by the end of the game they were really tired. They are playing too many minutes, and having to carry the offense especially without Petty. If we had a decent big man, things would be different. The SEC has some really good bball coaches now. It will be tough to get into the dance when your team has a glaring weakness. We better fix the talent problem before blaming it on the fans or the building.

You also have to view those comments keeping this in mind: we fuss about FOGs but we all have a little bit of that in us, so we're used to winning. And when something big is on the line, like your tournament life, we are damn sure used to winning more often than losing on the gridiron and the expectation carries over to basketball. So with at least 3 of those home losses being at crucial times when everyone knew that it was critical to win, they choked. Blame it on whatever you want, but the result is the same and it's one we're not used to nor accept very easily. Couple that with the fact that nobody less than 30 years old has seen any sort of sustained success from Alabama basketball and it all adds up to fans, both young and old, that are frustrated as hell and tired of it. We want better, expect better, and deserve better. I guess the silver lining is at least a segment of vocal fans care enough to vent. I'd be more concerned if nobody GAF.

How can Kira be a high intensity defender? He is playing 40 minutes a game and is the only player we have who is good at driving to the basket and has to exert a ton of energy carrying the offense. He isn’t super human. If he doesnt have a good game on offense we automatically lose.

If he gets in foul trouble we automatically lose.

It’s not like he doesnt try on defense I remember him getting two steals in a row at the end of the SC game to close it out.

Depending on Saturday outcomes, the @alabamambb team will play as either the No. 9 or No. 10 seed in the SEC Tournament next Thursday. Alabama has been either the No. 9 or No. 10 seed in six of the last seven SEC Tournaments.
