Dreadful, terrible, embarrassing loss. A team with 3 SEC wins coming into this series lit up Bama’s two best pitchers. And Bama bats have generated 5 runs across two games. The team appears to be fading down the stretch. With today’s loss Bama has kicked open the door for any of a number of teams to take the 2 spot heading into the tournament.

It’s been a nightmare weekend so far for Bama Nation.

Alabama Softball Falls to Texas A&M in Five Innings, 9-1

Alabama softball couldn't dig itself out of a big second-inning deficit, ultimately falling 9-1 in five innings to Texas A&M as the Aggies clinched the weekend series.

Alabama (38-8, 13-7 SEC) faced a big early deficit as Texas A&M (26-17, 5-12 SEC) put up a seven-spot in the second inning and then added an eighth run in the fourth inning to set up a potential run-rule victory. Down to its final out in the top of the fifth, Jenna Lord kept the game going for the Crimson Tide with an RBI single to make it 8-1 but the Aggies ended it in the bottom half with a single and fielding error to make it 9-1.

Alabama put two in scoring position with two out in the first but a strikeout ended the inning prevented the Tide from scratching a run across in the opening inning. A single and two walks in the bottom of the third loaded the bases for Texas A&M and a single through the right side drove in a pair to give the home team the first lead of the game. Another pair of RBI singles stretched it to 4-0 before a three-run home run made it 7-0.

The Aggies stretched the lead to eight in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double, meaning Alabama needed to score a run in the top of the fifth to avoid the run-rule loss. With two out and a runner at third, Lord poked a single through the right side to erase the shutout and keep the game going. With two out in the bottom of the fifth a walk, single and fielding error plate the game-winning run for Texas A&M, with the final score at 9-1.

Highlights (editor’s note: you know things are bad when these are the highlights)
*The series loss is the first for Alabama against Texas A&M, winning the previous six against the Aggies (2013, 15, 16, 18, 19, 21)
*It is just the second time this season the Tide has lost back-to-back games, previously doing so in a March 12 doubleheader at LSU
*Megan Bloodworth's hit streak ended at a season-high six games and Ashley Prange's reached-base streak ended at a career-high 20 games

a common theme the last 3 weeks. BA's going down and ERA's going up. Both our top two pitchers gave up a lot of runs in the first 3 innings. Lexi gave up 7 by the second inning and was yanked and never finished inning two.

coming out of the winter I am excited for SB and BB to start and as the season wears who we become who we thought we were. Kind of like last seasons basketball team.

This is a huge relief. Can’t go into another swoon and tank another season. It’s time we win another Natty.

Amen. Happy the ladies salvaged something from an otherwise terrible series. Scored four runs - with 10 runners left on base today. Need to fix that before the series with Mizzou. Can’t imagine the hit to RPI this last series did. Lots to work on during the upcoming off weekend.

Alabama Softball Bounces Back to Take Series Finale from Texas A&M

Home runs from Ashley Prange and Jenna Lord, plus seven innings in the circle from Montana Fouts helped Alabama avoid the sweep.

I’m surprised the fall wasn’t further down in the polls. Went from a solid #2 tournament seed to a borderline super regional host in one weekend. Better get it together over these next four games or that will be out the window too.

If you aren’t tuning in, don’t. Nightmare start in Kentucky. Bama goes down 1,2,3. WKU lights up Jaala, Savannah misplays two hits in center field. Ally takes a foul ball to the face mask (is still in the game). Jaala gets pulled and Montana has to come in to close out the first inning.

WKU leads 3-0 after 1

Still 3-0 after 2 innings. Montana good so far. In the top of the 2nd, Bailey popped out. Tow reaches on a fielding error. Bloodworth hits into a double play. Bama at bat in the 3rd.
