Montana Fouts Earns Second Straight SEC Softball Pitcher of the Week Honor

The senior went 3-0 with 28 strikeouts over 17.0 shutout innings

For the second straight week, Alabama's Montana Fouts is the SEC Softball Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the Southeastern Conference.

Fouts went 3-0 with a save over four appearances last weekend, throwing 17.0 shutout innings while striking out 28. She opened with a complete-game shutout over Southeastern Louisiana, fanning 13 batters while allowing just five to reach base safely. The next day, she earned a win in relief against Northwestern State and then a save against Louisiana Tech in back-to-back games. In the weekend finale, Fouts shut out 20th-ranked Louisiana, striking out seven over five innings in the run-rule victory.

The weekly award is the second this season for Fouts and the 11th of her career, previously winning Freshman of the Week four times in 2019 and Pitcher of the Week five times over her first three years in Tuscaloosa. Crimson Tide pitchers have now won a combined 47 SEC Pitcher of the Week awards.

Alabama Softball Stays Strong at No. 2 in Polls (SI)

The Crimson Tide is one of the four undefeated teams in college softball at the top of the rankings.
quote:

The Crimson Tide picked up another pair of top-25 wins over then No. 20 Louisiana and now sit at 15-0. Alabama is ranked No. 2 in all major polls behind the defending national champions Oklahoma at No. 1. The other undefeated teams are No. 3 Florida State and No. 4 Florida. Until any of the four teams loses, the rankings are unlikely to change.

That Bama/FSU game in two weeks is going to be a good one.

Bama is looking for revenge for last season and looking to break a 5 game losing streak to FSU.

Alabama Softball Shuts Out UAB Wednesday, 7-0 (SI)

The Crimson Tide offense tallies a season-best 13 hits, including four from Dallis Goodnight

Alabama softball opened a six-game home stand Wednesday night with a 7-0 shutout victory over UAB at Rhoads Stadium.

Alabama's (16-0) offense produced a season-high 13 hits against UAB (7-8), including multi-hit performances from Dallis Goodnight, Ally Shipman, Kaylee Tow and Kat Grill. Goodnight led the team with a 4-for-4 day at the plate, including her first career triple. Shipman drove in three RBIs, marking her team-leading eighth multi-RBI game of the season. Jaala Torrence (3-0) was dominant in the circle, shutting out the Blazers and limiting them to just two hits while striking out five.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"Jaala Torrence was awesome tonight. I thought her velocity and her location was terrific throughout the night except for one little spot late in the game. The defense played well behind her and then we got the hits on offense. We didn't have that one 'big' hit, but those seven runs proved to be enough. I was very pleased with Jaala and our defense tonight.

Wonder how the pitching rotation will go this weekend.

Have Fouts pitch both games vs Texas and let the other two pitchers pitch against Miami (OH) and E Illinois?

Pitching Fouts both games against Texas would mean back to back starts on consecutive days, but she's done it before.

With 5 games in 4 days, someone is going to have to start in consecutive days. With Jaala starting out so strong this year, I wouldn’t be surprised to see her get one of the starts against Texas.

This Weekend: T-Mobile Crimson Classic
Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Rhoads Stadium

Friday, March 4 vs. Texas – 6 p.m. CT

Saturday, March 5 vs. Miami (OH) – 5 p.m. CT
Sunday, March 6 vs. Miami (OH) – 12:30 p.m. CT
Monday, March 7 vs. Eastern Illinois – 3 p.m. CT (not part of the Crimson Classic)
