Not in a shady way though, some other people upped their offer after how he performed last week. He looked like the best player on the Prolific Preps roster and they have the #1 player in the 2025 and 2026 classes.

So Trilly and Mac say Bama and Slater and Branham say Georgia. Who do we trust more? Trilly and Mac are usually pretty solid. Slater seems pretty sure on Georgia to post that to his Twitter account though.

On the Georgia side we’re hearing that we have the momentum on Reid but that is likely to change multiple times before Saturday.
Might come down to which coaching staff talks/visits him last. I’m sure there is an NIL bidding war going on as well.
Personally I think Bama gets him. It kind of feels like UGA “snuck up” in the race and now that Reid has Bama’s full attention they will pull away.

Nobody is doubting Oats. But it is perfectly acceptable to be concerned if we miss on a guy most thought was a lock to Bama. It has nothing to do with how many stars he has. He is a priority target that we've put a lot of time into recruiting.
But to pretend that stars don't matter and only development does is ridiculous. It's a lot easier to develop a top 100 prospect than it is a lower rated guy who also fits our system. It's not a binary, one or the other situation.
And no UConn didn't have any 5 stars but every one of their starting 5 was a 4 star recruit not some developmental project they coached up into a starter. Also the class they signed last year was a top 10 5 star player and 4 other 4 star guys.
Oats was great at Buffalo dominating Mac competition with Mac level players. And then his Buffalo teams got bounced in the 1st round of the tourney twice and the second round once. Talent matters just as much as development.

Evaluation* matters just as much as development. Recruiting rankings are nothing than than a subjective number on a page. If Oats wanted a guy then it’s for a reason.
