So where are these "unlimited funds" in football?
They are there but every other schools boosters are willing to spend in football. They aren’t willing to spend in basketball where as Arkansas is

Arkansas has minutes up for grabs. That's the key. We have Sears and Q most likely coming back. That's the real story.
Arkansas has Menifield, a 5-star PG in Blocker, Tramon Mark and Davonte Davis at the guard spot. We have Sears and possibly JQ that would be any threat to him for minutes. What are we doing here?
Oats mentioned the NIL problem just last year. We don't have to pretend like it hasn't been an issue, when our HC has literally told us that it has been.

Where did he say NIl was a problem? I remember him saying he wants guys that want to be here and not guys that just want NIl.
Losing three assistants this offseason has probably been our biggest problem in the portal.

Yeah, I think some of our fans take comments, misinterpret/exaggerate them, and then run with it.

I would wait to see who we actually land in the portal before melting down.
People seemed to think it was the end of the world cause we “missed out on” Menifield and Denver Jones and it turns out we probably didnt go after either very hard and are in on Perry and Estrada who are better.
We already got Walton who is 6’7 and can play SG or SF. I love that addition.

Offering minimal, if any, NIL money to portal guys and then having "insiders" claim that a guy wasn't a good fit or that we never really pursued him when someone else swoops in and actually cuts a check. That's really all there is to it. It happened last year and it's happening again this year. We got lucky with Sears and Walton both having major personal ties to the state.

How did we get Brandon Miller then if we are offering no NIL in basketball?

At the booster function where Saban called out Jimbo. Him and Saban were both on stage talking about how if we don’t step up we were gonna lose some guys.

Arkansas simply outworks most other schools in the portal is a big part of it too, they literally contact every good player in the portal.
Muss had a ton of success using the portal at Nevada before NIl was even a thing. He is the portal pioneer really.

No offense but yoi seem to be pretty clueless in regards to our NIL. You have said we bought our whole football class which we did not.

Yes. We signed 8 5 stars and didn’t pay a dime. They came out of the goodness of their hearts and love for the Tide.
If you dont think NIL is the overwhelmingly most important part of a recruits decision now you are Clueless

I didnt say we didnt spend a dime.
If we miss out on Perry, Estrada, Mack and our other targets that I like I will be worried but I doubt that happens I’d bet we land two or three of them and em all this worrying is for nothing.

That video is over a year old, I’d say we have stepped the NIL up since then.
quote:
As part of a new 15-year agreement with Alabama that it announced Tuesday, Learfield, in conjunction with the university, is creating a dedicated hub for name, image and likeness (NIL) called The Advantage Center, an epicenter for Crimson Tide athletes’ NIL endeavors that the company believes is a first nationally. The Advantage Center, with a goal of opening this calendar year, will be located inside Bryant Denny Stadium and will double as the agency’s local office, says Learfield CEO Cole Gahagan.

Which is it, are we “having trouble recruiting because of NIL and need to step our game up” or did we “get the number 1 recruiting class in football because of NIL”? It cant be both.

I mean if we aren’t even willing to spend $3M-$4M in basketball NIL then we have an even bigger FOG problem amongst our boosters than I thought.

??? We are spending in Football…..so ended up with the #1 class. We aren’t willing to spend that much in basketball, which is sad. I hope this season encourages our boosters to invest for basketball but until I see it im not believing it. Point is we have the NIL money we just only care about using it in football

Idk about that, we had a top 3 recruiting class in bball last year with NIl already in effect, idk how we would have done that if all players care about is NIL and we weren't spending hardly any.
If there is ever a year we miss out on a ton of guys and end up with a bad recruiting class I will worry but that hasn't happened under Oats yet. Ill judge this class when its done, we are still in on a lot of good transfers that appear to be our top targets.

I don't think we have stepped up our NIL game. At least not the way Fever quoted. The Advantage Center is for current Alabama athletes. The most Oats can do with that is tell recruits "Hey once you've signed on with us The Advantage Center will help you get the most out of your NIL opportunities."
Other schools are promising specific dollar amount NIL deals to recruits and transfers before they've even committed to the school. It's not at all what NIL is supposed to be but if we want to attract recruits and transfers like Arky and others are doing we'll have to do it too.

A few more snippets from the On3 article above
quote:
High-quality players who entered the transfer portal – or their representation – are often hoping the players will sign agreements worth $250,000 to $400,000 per year, with some of the most in-demand players hoping to earn at least half a million dollars.
quote:
A collective that supports a blue-blood men’s basketball program, or one that wants to compete at that elite level, might be prepared to sign not only its starters but also at least one or two of its top reserves to agreements that are each worth close to six figures annually. The top two or three players on a roster might earn a higher level of compensation – maybe at least $150,000 each – than the other starters or rotation players.
quote:
SANIL recommends $75,000 for a high-major starter. The second tier of compensation is around $50,000, then a third around $25,000 and finally there’s a drop-off for the players who comprise the final spots on a roster. A smaller budget means smaller individual deals on a percentage basis.
