He and Green are examples of guys who figured it out once they got to the next level and just grinded their asses off.
If you'd asked me if I thought Alonzo Gee would play in 400+ NBA games after 2009 I would have laughed in your face. Guy scored 2,750 NBA points and played 13 seasons. Really incredible.

Ime Udoka on JD Davison: "Excited about the young guy. He's a tremendous athlete. Obviously with the hair and flying around, he stood out. But he stood out as a player too when I saw Alabama. We'll implement JD into everything we do and looking forward to seeing him in Vegas."

He went to one of if not the best organization he could in terms of taking his skillset and finding ways to improve it and then implement new things.
Happy for him. If he works at it he'll have a chance to be a NBA regular in that org.

He started all 82 games for the Cavs one year.

He is probably the one coach in the NBA that will kick his players arse. Well he looks like it.

He certainly played on some horrid teams
The in-between LeBron years in Cleveland. The post-Karl, pre-Jokic Nuggets. The Pelicans.

Sorry if you posted this already Chad, I wasn't reading last night
Brad Stevens on Davison
Pretty high praise from that guy.
Brad Stevens on Davison
quote:
“Obviously, he’s a guy that we’ve seen all year long. Very young, very explosive. That’s pretty obvious. Has the ability to get inside the paint and make plays. And has some things that he’ll have to improve on, but has a lot of physical tools. A good competitor. And obviously, I think, played in a really good program for really good coaches. And so we’re looking forward to getting him up to Boston.”
Pretty high praise from that guy.
quote:
On what Davison needs to learn to play with control at a high speed…
“First of all, what is it June, so he’s 12 months removed from high school graduation, right? So he’s played one year of college basketball at a very high level on a good team and with guys that were there that were good playmakers in their own right. He had some incredible games, and he had some games where he looked like a freshman. But he also has consistently competed, consistently carried himself well on the court. And again, the ability to get into the paint is a hard thing to be able to do in this league, and so whether in transition or off of a ball screen, off an action, to be able to get into the paint.
“And then you learn as time goes on what the right reads are around you and making the right plays. And some of that comes with experience, but we do think he’s got a good feel as far as getting the ball out of his hands quickly and finding the right people, especially on spot-ups. Very unselfish in that regard. But there are things that he’s gotta improve, as any 19-year old would be, but we’re looking forward to helping him do that. That’s our task.”
quote:
On how much he got to know Davison in the preparation process…
“I haven’t personally spent as much time with him. Certainly, we’ve had guys come through. He was not amongst the guys that came through for a draft workout, but some of that was truncated by our own travels, and some of that was just decisions made by others where they could send them. There’s only so many draft workouts these guys can go and do. But we spent a lot of time scouting him in person this year. I went to a practice in October and watched him practice at Alabama. We saw several games live as a staff, so we’re very well-versed in who he is and what he brings to the table and also what he’s gotta work on.
“But the most important thing right now is how do we help him transition smoothly. This is a big life moment for him, and then in a couple days, you’re on a plane to Boston and you’re in a whole new place. And how do we help him really start off on the right foot. Can’t wait to get him in Summer League practice and get him going.”
quote:
On what about Davison said, ‘OK, let’s develop this kid…’
“Well, I think we’re in a position roster-wise where we’ve got to evaluate the backend of our roster and decide on the guys who are here, decide on who we can add, again, via trade or via free agency. But we’re in a position roster-wise where we can focus on the development of a young player or two, too, and I think that that’s important. We traded the last couple of first-round picks. … JD, all you have to do is turn on a couple minutes of clips and you can see the upside. So now it’s about making it so that he gets accustomed to the NBA game.
“And he’s not gonna have, barring anything crazy here, like he’s not gonna have a ton of pressure to come in and impact us right away or move the needle for us right away. He’ll be able to compete for minutes just like everybody else. But at the same time, he can grow, develop and focus his attention on improving, and I think that that’s really an important place to be for a young player. We’ve got a really good team, but he’ll be able to put some heat on us with his speed on both ends of the floor that I’m looking forward to.”

Not sure what his academic status is, but a degree would be pretty useful to a guy who won't make enough money playing basketball to sustain himself for the final 40-50 years of his life after his career is over. I understand wanting to get paid while you can, but Shack has also been getting some really, really shitty advice over the last 15 months.

He can make a great living playing basketball overseas.

Auburn going 4 straight years with a guy drafted is just another in a long line of insane stats showing what Pearl has done there.
They've had 7 guys drafted from 2019 to 2022 (4 years).
They had 7 guys drafted from 1992 to 2018 (27 years).
The had 0 guys drafted from 2002 to 2018.

I'm happy for JD. He played hard here and never gave the team any problems. He gets drafted to a team with an exceptional development system in the Boston Celtics.
I hope he drops some weight and get back to being that leaner more explosive JD. He's learned a lot from Coach Oats and company in terms of reads and things of that nature so I hope he fully develops and have a fantastic career.
Proud of the guy!!

Not seeing much coverage, but the coaches are back out at the scholastic events. Oats was at the Ohio Basketball Coaches Midwest Live event earlier today. Curtis Williams Jr. probably the main target. Would expect a heavy presence at the NHSBCA event as well.

He could have gotten a degree that might help him after what may be a short professional hoops career. Plus his NIL pay was likely as good as practice squad.
