Change the way we view the sport makes me think it's something related to NIL or sponsors or something.

that’s a random fan predicting stuff. He said we were getting Emoni too. I’d ignore that account completely.

I'd be very happy with adding Akot I'm just not sure how our minutes would play out.

I highly doubt that guy knows anything, but I'd think Akot would slide in perfectly at the 4 to fill the Herb role. Miller would slide to the 3 while Burnett and Sears would man the guard slots. I like Welch, but he'd be a great sixth/seventh man too next to Bradley.

If we somehow did pull Akot, our depth would be insane.

G - Sears
G - Burnett
F - Miller
F - Akot
C - Bediako

6 - Bradley
7 - Welch
8 - Gurley
9 - Miles
10 - Griffen
11 - Pringle
12 - Clowney

13 - JQ (potentially available late in the year)

Yeah Akot would be a very nice surprise, switchable wing was desperately missed last year

Well I certainly hope this isn't the case. I don't know why we would just waste an open roster spot and then throw in the fact that JQ is going to be out half the season (this is being optimistic), I wouldn't want to roll into the season with only 11 healthy guys and a good chunk are freshmen.

Exactly how I feel. Frankly, i'm shocked at how many people seem to be perfectly fine with entering the season without a full roster.

If we can't get Akot, I'd be very happy if we used the last spot on a long, defensive wing who is a grad transfer/senior guy from a small school who is craving an opportunity to play on a NCAAT level team even as a role player. Think that fit would be perfect for that last spot.

- Cedric Henderson Jr (Campbell)
- Felipe Haase (Mercer)
- Gerald Lidell (Alabama St) (previously Texas)

Somebody who can provide 5-7 minutes a night or, in a foul/injury crunch, step in and play 15-20 minutes if needed. But most importantly, somebody who has experience and at the type of skillset we want (even if it isn't quite as talented as others). A perfect long bench guy who wants to be there and fits in with the roster.

I feel like sometimes some of our fan base is conditioned to give the staff an out. They've done a great job thus far, but I think it would be borderline idiotic to not use that final scholarship. We're already burning a scholarship on JQ's rehab. We can't be comfortable at 11 guys considering our history of preseason injuries. We probably aren't looking at a likely contributor with that last spot, but we definitely should be using it on someone.

In this day and age of one year players (transfers, NBA, etc) there is very little reason to ever have an empty roster spot. It made some sense years ago when your roster was built around 3-4 years of guys, because you didn't want to waste a spot on a guy who was a flier and you had to keep for 3 years. That situation is gone.

Like I said, even if that spot is a veteran role player from Eastern Michigan or UTSA who wants to be on a high level, NCAAT team and loves that role of 5-7 minutes a night most nights and maybe even 0 minutes some nights.....that is MUCH better than just having an empty spot that is basically filled by a walk on.

Absolutely. Pretty much any D1 player who was getting minutes at his last program is better than letting the scholarship go unused. Especially if it's a guy with one year of eligibility left.

Exactly. Now, the fit is very important, because it needs to be a guy who is fully aware of his new role and is ok with it (and excited to be on a team where he will get minutes in the SEC and the NCAAT). If that guy expects to come in and play a bunch and doesn't, that is a problem. But I have to imagine there are guys out there who were solid team guys who just want to have 1-2 years of big time basketball who have skills that could help in short spurts, especially compared to the alternative which is walk on/nobody.

We’ll get someone, I believe staff is just doing their due diligence. Akot really makes sense especially with him withdrawing from the draft, but yeah give me anybody over nobody. I doubt Oats goes into the season short handed, but we’ll see

Pretty much this. Find someone that knows his role coming in and can bring some value for 5-8 minutes in a game if needed, position versatility would be a main priority (for me). There is no sense in rushing that last spot at the moment, just need some patience.
