Santa Online (SOL) Exclusive: Lucas enjoyed his visit to Tuscaloosa; Alabama firmly in the mix as a landing spot for the talented Oregon State transfer.

UPDATE: SOL sources are reporting that Lucas and the coaching staff had dinner at Chuck's, but that Lucas was torn between sushi and the catch of the day much like he is torn between the West Coast and Tuscaloosa.

The update alone was worth the $8.99.

No idea how long he is supposed to stay

That is partially my point. You'd think someone could contact the staff, ask a question or two and at least tell us that much. Any info we get is usually from the national guys or is behind a paywall and doesn't even say anything that matters. Yeah, we know that staff is interested in him, that's why they invited him on an official visit in the first place.

Just saying it would be nice if one of the people that cover the university/team could at least throw out a tweet with whatever info they can dig up - like how long the visit will last. I'm not asking for a feature article with an exact timeline of his every move.

These kids regularly search their own name on Twitter, so it would be cool if he saw someone affiliated with covering the team mention the fact that he's there. If you drum up more interest and mentions on social media, most recruits will view that as "showing love" and may feel more of a connection to the school/fan base.

According to a report by @GoodmanHoops, Alabama is one of many schools to have reached out to St. Bonaventure’s transfer Jaren Holmes. In two seasons with the Bonnies, he averaged 13.6 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 3.0 APG.

St. Bonaventure basketball transfer Jaren Holmes reportedly hearing from Iowa State, Arkansas among 16 others

St. Bonaventure guard Jaren Holmes has quickly become one of the hottest names in the transfer portal. Holmes visited Iowa State on Tuesday, according to a report by Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, and Memphis, Mississippi State, USC, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Ohio State, Clemson, Boise State, Maryland, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, Alabama, Clemson, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Georgetown and Florida are all expressing interest.

The 6-foot-4 guard is coming off a strong 2021-22 season where he averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Holmes shot 27% from 3-point range, 44% on 2s and 76% from the charity stripe.

Holmes profiles as a big-bodied guard who can really stretch the floor. His shooting struggles this past season were certainly out of character and one of the worst marks of his career. He shot 39% from downtown in 2019-20 and 38% in 2020-21. Holmes was a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection in 2020-21.

Holmes reputation as a bucket-getting guard is well warranted. Holmes poured in 23 points in St. Bonaventure’s 70-68 win over Oklahoma in the 2022 NIT. He also torched UConn for 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Holmes flirted with multiple triple-doubles, and he was a big part of St. Bonaventure’s stout defensive culture too.

The teams who have been involved with Holmes have been firmly in the market for impact guards throughout the offseason. Iowa State is in the market for a stud after Big 12 Freshman of the Year Tyrese Hunter opted to hit the transfer portal. Memphis landed SMU transfer point guard Kendric Davis, but Penny Hardaway needs multiple pieces to buff up the backcourt. Maryland could also be another team to watch. New coach Kevin Willard would covet Holmes' two-way ability and the veteran presence he would bring to the Terrapins.

I think we would all agree that Scheierman would be an ideal pick up. The question is likelihood. He's going to be recruited by Duke, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Kansas, etc. so unless "come to Alabama and shoot 3s until you're sick of it" gains a lot of traction as a recruiting pitch with him I don't think it's realistic that we sign him.

I'm not disagreeing with your analysis but an argument could be made, especially re: Duke, Kentucky, Kansas that his role might be somewhat limited because of all the firepower around him. At Alabama and or Gonzaga, I think the counter to that is he would be a much bigger piece of the offense in either place than the blue bloods.

That's a fair point, but his agent mentioned that he was interested in the "exposure" aspect of playing at a school like Kentucky. Let's be honest, we aren't competing with the Duke's and Kentucky's of the world when it comes to national exposure.

Jaren Holmes

Holmes' shot looks pretty nice on highlight videos. Certainly not broken looking. Great size for a guard/wing too.

Also some of these guys basic stats can be skewed a bit in some ways. St. Bonaventure played super slow last year. If you look at his scoring numbers per 100 possessions it evens out a bit.

Over their careers (they both played a lot over the course of 3 years), per 100 possessions:

Jaden Shackleford: 26.3 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 2.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 35.1% from 3.

Jaren Holmes: 22.9 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 4.8 assists, 1.6 steals, 33.8& from 3.

Holmes was a good 3 point shooter till last year, although not at a huge volume. Not like Lucas, who seems to be a legit great shooter.

They need to all rock the Iverson's and somebody needs to do the move from his commercial that every kid tried to master during the Summer of 2001 or whenever it was

I played ball back in the day with a kid that could do it flawlessly. He was short and lightning quick with good handles, but he sucked arse as a basketball player because all he ever really practiced was shite like that and the stuff you would see on the And1 mixtapes.

He must have been the king of the school. Everybody tried that shite, about half of the kids tried it in a game.

I think I spent a whole week outside trying to so that the week that the Sixers went to the fins against LA.
