Herb defense is just next fricking level. He has found a nice role for him to have a long successful career. Play Elite defense and average 12-15 PPG just cleaning up trash

That LSU game by Herb where he got 17 rebounds with 1 hand is the most blue collar thing I’ve ever seen by a Bama basketball player

For some he was a disappointment but I don't see it that way and never will because he didn't have the right pieces around him to succeed day in and day out.
Not having the right pieces around him doesn't excuse the guy from not knowing how to dribble a damn basketball without turning it over 60% of the time.

He has a ton of talent but was not ready for big boy basketball. Had his moments but overall a pretty disappointing season.
If he hadn't been hyped coming in, I would have just assumed he was an underachieving 3 star player.
I never really saw the talent, we just assume he has talent due to his high school ranking.
He's got a long way to go

If he had the RIGHT PIECES around him then his weaknesses wouldn't be as magnified.
Don't exaggerate though!
I appreciate the negative energy but I hope JD gets drafted top 15 and keep this thing rolling for our BRAND!

Herb was unreal tonight.

True definition of a hard worker! He gives everything he got day in and day out.

Is voting already closed for awards? You'd have to think Herb's performance last night would open some eyes as far as All-Rookie and All-Defense voting goes.

I fell asleep trying to watch the game and woke up as Herb made a block, stole the ball and dunked it (I think the dunk was disallowed but what a great 20 seconds).
Herb says no!

Yes, and if JD comes back and gets injured like JQ, it becomes even harder to make it. I think there must be many multi-millionaires here, but if you are 19 and from Letohatchee, Alabama, not a wealthy community, a million dollars is a good "bird in the hand."

Not to mention, at this point, teams treat their G-League team like MLB treats AA/AAA. And almost everyone drafted these days (due to the G-League option) get guaranteed contracts (it used to just be the 1st round because of roster limitations).
quote:
In the past two seasons, every college player that was selected among the top 50 picks — a total of 30 of which came in the second round — received a guaranteed contract.
So, you end up getting paid to train and develop with an organization that sees you as a possible future asset. It's really no different than coming back to college for a year except you get paid a salary.
Sharife Cooper is a pretty solid comparison for JD (even though JD wasn't as good this year as Cooper was last year).
- #48 pick (2nd round)
- 2021-22 2 Way Contract - $462,629
quote:
The Hawks would have the ability to convert Cooper to a three-year NBA contract during the season if they don’t use all of their MLE, though they would need to create a roster spot to do so assuming they head into 2021-22 with a full roster.
Last season, Skylar Mays and Nathan Knight occupied Atlanta’s Two-Way slots. Mays is currently a restricted free agent as the Hawks extended him a qualifying offer, while Knight was not extended the QO by the Hawks, and wound up signing a Two-Way with the Minnesota Timberwolves for next season.

I would say JD probably made the right decision. His shot and decision making are things he can improve through offseason repetitions and simply gaining more experience, but I don't think he's ever going to have the first step suddenness, quick release, or tight handle that pretty much every elite scoring guard has at least a couple of. Even if he were to play better next year I think it just moves him up into the 15-25 overall range instead of 25-35. Not really worth the gamble.

I’m guessing we finish out the roster with JQ and 2 transfers

I guess Jalen Bridges from West Va would be one of the transfers. He Llweleyn, who committed to Clemson, and Sears, who is visiting with Bridges this weekend, are the only visits we have set up. Who might be the last signee, transfer or otherwise? I would guess a tall wing who can play D and make some shots, but no idea who that might be.

A lot of people base their decisions off of what they would do but their not in JD's shoes. He will rise up many draft boards off of potential alone especially if his workouts goes well.
He has a chance to get life changing money so people need to stop being negative regardless of how they feel about how he played.
JD wanted to play for Alabama and I am very happy he came here.
He's just a SMALL town kid with a BIG dream. Be happy for the young man!
