St. Joseph's transfer Taylor Funk is in contact with Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Butler, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Miami, Michigan, Penn State, Pitt and Xavier amongst others, he tells @247SportsPortal.

Wouldnt mind funk being the 3rd addition

I don’t want the Princeton kid. Someone did a breakdown of his stats against P6 schools vs the other ones and it was a big drop off. Performed worse against the better schools.
If we land him, fine. But I’d rather look around some more.

I only can go by stats because I haven’t seen him play much, but Llewelyn has some slightly questionable stuff. Not red flags necessarily, but it’s not all good.
He was basically a bad shooter his first two years. He finally shot the ball pretty well last year. Is that a trending up situation or a bit of an outlier?
College Stats
Doesn’t turn the ball over much, doesn’t really put up assists either. Not a traditional PG, which is fine.
Looks like he has decent size, athleticism, and ball handling:
vs Harvard
If the shooting is not an outlier - if he could shoot 35% or so - then he could be a helpful addition.
Richard and Funk seem like great fits.

I would almost look for consistency as being as big a factor as average in terms of 3P shooting. Gurley shot 41% and 34% in the two seasons before he transferred here, then shot 25% with us this year. That's wild.
JQ went from 25% at Villanova to 43% last year and 28% this season.
Give me a guy like Shackelford (36%, 34%, 35% his three seasons) or Ellis (39%, 37%) over some dude who went from 25% to 45%.

Funk strikes me as a better version of Reese, which I guess can either a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.
Richard looks really good, and the Brazile kid from Mizzou would give us a lot of what we were missing this year.
I'm not really enamored with any of the guards in the portal so far.

Nope - most are either small Northeastern school guys (Niagara, Colgate, Ivy, Marist, etc), and I just don't trust that those guys can play point guard night in and night out athletically unless proven otherwise.
I'd assume the P5 entries will start flooding in in the next 5-10 days.

I like Llewellyn a bit more than the rest of them, but he's got a lot of Dazon Ingram in his game so I would only want to sign him if the rest of the roster shakes out in a way that he's going to be able to be more of a combo guard than a primary ball handler.

I'd really like to get a great ball handler/defender who can shoot just enough for the #2 PG spot. A gritty kid who will be tough as shite.
Hard to put that in the "stat filter"

Gurley did great against our awesome defense and performed well against the P5 at Furman. While it's worrisome, I wouldn't strictly look at games against P5 schools. Plus it's not like he was some unknown prospect that blew up at a mid-major. He's always had high-major ability.

He is all over the place. Shot horribly from 3 the last two seasons and really well this year. Decent FT shooting in his career until this season.
Gonna be a pass from me.

I think Jaden Bradley is the definition of that. It's hard to put a lot of faith into freshmen, because you never know if they'll pan out, but he's an incredible floor general and an in-your-face defender against top high school competition.
I am really hoping Mark Sears hits the portal though. I don't think he's a defensive dog or anything, but he's an excellent PG who can run an offense as well as put up some points. Would pretty much guarantee that we are solid at that position next year.

I would imagine our coaches and most other programs are recruiting kids not currently in the portal to get them in the portal.

Agreed - it's what his film screams. Like you said, you have to be patient and know that freshman are going to deal with growing pains in competition level, fatigue, etc.........but Bradley looks the most like the PG I remember watching run his stuff at Buffalo (Wes Clark) that I can remember.
Aggressive, fast, quick decisions, under control.
Wes Clark (PG) - Buffalo vs Arizona
Wes Clark (PG) - Buffalo vs Kentucky
Also.........he shoots 2 mid range jumpers in the Arizona game. Kind of interesting.
