Florida, Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia Tech make the cut.

quote:

Brice Sensabaugh, a 6-foot-6 small forward out of Orlando (Fla.) Lake Highland Prep tells On3 he is down to four schools – Georgia Tech, Alabama, Ohio State and Florida.

Sensabaugh has set official visits to three of his four finalists.

He’ll be at Georgia Tech on Aug. 26, Alabama on Sept. 10, and Ohio State on Sept. 18. Sensabaugh took an unofficial visit to Florida earlier in the year.

Sensabaugh discussed each option with On3.

Brice Sensabaugh on Georgia Tech
“Georgia Tech plays a lot like my high school team and I like the way they play,” Brice Sensabaugh said. “They play the right way. They’re ACC champions obviously and they’re big on school too. They have the best of both worlds there. One of their main things is..they don’t have many players like me. Their 3 position is wide open for me so it would be a great opportunity.”

Brice Sensabaugh on Alabama
“I like them because of the way that they play,” Brice Sensabaugh said. “They play fast. Their coach is really into it. The assistants are cool and I can be real with them. Also how they put players into the pros. Their playing style – four guards, shooting a lot of threes, and player development.”

Sensabaugh on Ohio State
“Ohio State jumped in recently,” Brice Sensabaugh said. “They liked my play and had watched me all summer alongside Bruce (Thornton) and they liked what they saw. I was super honored, being from Ohio and having such a prestigious school believe in me like this. I look forward to visiting and their staff has been very honest and consistent with me so far which I like a lot.”

Sensabaugh on Florida
“Florida has been in the mix for a while and they constantly express their wants and needs and are always transparent,” Brice Sensabaugh said. “Being close to home is a great option and they have a great culture of playing the best teams every year and winning. It’s another great option.”

Brice Sensabaugh narrows list to just four schools

Brice Sensabaugh has been a rapid rise in the past two months since being one of the breakout stars at the GHSA team camp in Georgia during the first live period. He received scholarship offers from high-major programs all over the country before recently cutting down his list to eight schools.

At the last cut, the soon-to-be four-star prospect kept Alabama, Florida, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Virginia in the mix.

This afternoon, the Florida native decided to chop his last in half. Only Alabama, Florida and Georgia Tech remain from Sensabaugh’s previous list with Ohio State cutting in line to claim the last spot in his final four.

His first official visit will be with Georgia Tech on August 26th followed by Alabama on September 9th. He’s working to set up a weekend to spend at Ohio State. Florida hosted him on an unofficial visit earlier this summer and could also get him back on campus before a decision is made.

IN HIS WORDS:

On Alabama:

“I really like the way play fast and they let you rock out. Coach [Nate] Oats lets you play your game and gives you a lot of freedom. The staff there is obviously really cool and the culture they have is great. There isn’t really much to do there, so the culture they have is really cool.”

On Florida:

“I like them because it’s close to home. I’m in consistent communication with them and I know they have a need for me. I’m able to talk to a lot of people who have went there and liked it because I’m so close. I’ve heard nothing but good things and they have a great culture. I like that it’s my home state school.”

On Georgia Tech:

“I like Georgia Tech because they jumped out on me early. Coach [Josh] Pastner is a super positive guy. He’s talked with me on the phone and on zoom plenty of times and expressed how much they need me and how they would use me. Being the school they are with the resources and education they provide, they have a lot of technology that can help me thrive. They are on the rise and they had a great year last year. It seems like the coaching staff is really cool.

On Ohio State:

“They liked me and Bruce [Thornton] and how we play together. I’m actually from Ohio. They have a top recruiting class already with Bruce going there. I was on a zoom with them for like two hours the other night and learned a lot about them.”

RIVALS’ REACTION: Ohio State working it way into the mix here is definitely an interesting dynamic to follow as Sensabugh moves forward in his recruitment. He developed a really good relationship with Buckeye commit Bruce Thornton this summer playing with Each 1 Teach 1 and has family ties to Ohio. Chris Holtmann’s crew certainly seems to be a major factor here.

Florida will also have a certain pull with him being his current home state school. Mike White and his staff have made him a major priority in the 2021 class and convinced him the Gators have a need for him.

Alabama and Georgia Tech both have reason to feel really good as well after securing the first two official visits. The Yellow Jackets were the first high-major school to recruit him and have been able to sell him on the combination of being a program on the rise while also having the education he’s looking for. Alabama’s style of play is certainly keeping the Crimson Tide in the mix as is his relationship with Nate Oats and assistant coach Antoine Petway.

Major target for Gonzaga. If Black goes to OTE, look for the Zags to turn up the pressure for Jaden Bradley.

Miles is the best player on the court at times. That is, when Ellis isn’t. Both were absolutely on fire during the session. Ellis is a sure fire NBA draft pick.

This is very interesting. Miles can be a matchup nightmare and when he gets hot he can score a lot of points. But Ellis and Miles kinda play the same position. Not sure if we have seen them on the court together much. But putting Miles at guard gives us a lot more size. He's not anywhere near the defender that Ellis is, but if he's got length to bother shooters on the perimeter.

It is so hard as a fan to predict our lineups and it is a really nice problem to have. Most depth ever?

what are the best 5 conference tourney games Ala has played? what am I missing below? what should be removed?

~In '82, beating Kentucky in the finals at Rupp.
~In '83, Ala as a 10th seed beat #1 seed Ken in BJCC outscoring the Cats 34-23 in the 2nd half (in the quarters/beat Aub in opening round and MSU in the semi's; lost to UGa in the finals).
~In '91, drilling UT/Alan Houston in the finals in Nash (3rd straight)
~In '92, beating Ark at BJCC in the semi's on Elliot Washington's shot (lost to UK in finals).
~ In '18, Ala beating A&M in the quarters at the buzzer on Sexton's last second shot getting the Tide to the tournament.
~In '18, beat #1 seed Aub 81-63 in the quarters.
~In '20, coming back from 15 and beating Tenn in the semi's.
~In '20, beating LSU in the final.

In the ’34 tourney in Atlanta, LSU/Ala were both really good but Kentucky was undefeated and Ala was missing their star, Zeke Kimbrough (broken jaw in practice) and second best player (Jimmy Walker). Ala/MSU each got a bye in the first round and then the Tide beat State 37-25 (18-9 at the half) in the Quarters. Fla had a huge upset over Kentucky in the round of 8 as well by 6 points leaving the Fla coach in tears after it was over.

2 days later on Monday, Ala beat the Vols 29-26 (19-12 at the half) in the semi’s. Ala went 15-20 from the line making the difference. Tuesday night in the title game, Ala dominated the Fla by 16 (25-12 at the half).

"The Tidesmen, who were the only pre-tournament favorites to survive the first round, never were greatly exploited following the loss of Zeke Kimbrough. Experts not reckoning on the steel in the Alabama soul, rather ignored them as a likely winner."

"But whereas, Kentucky and L.S.U. were bounced out in the first round, the fighting troupe of Hank Crisp won two games very unobtrusively, then uncorked the most powerful offense and the most air-tight defense of the tournament, to wrestle the Gators out of the picture.

"Had Kimbrough been available to Crisp, Atlanta fans might have seen one of the most devastating basket ball outfits ever to perform here. One wonders how even Kentucky could have beaten them."

( "Rangy Tidesmen Lasso "Dark Horse" 41-to-25" by Ed Miles, Atlanta Journal, February 28, 1934)

First Team
John DeMoisey - Kentucky
Jimmy Walker - Alabama
Jim Whatley - Alabama
Jim Hughes - Florida
Bill Davis – Kentucky

Cats with 2 first team players that only played 1 game and lost.

Rupp was salty that the conference title was tied to the tourney champ winner and announced the Cats wouldn’t participate the next year unless the rule was changed.

"To establish a conference champion on the basis of its play in a tournament is highly unfair. I still believe my team is the champion. Somebody else will be the tournament champion, but the conference crown, I believe, belongs to Kentucky.

"It is highly unfair to allow a championship to hinge on a single game as was the case here. Or, for that matter, how can you decide the championship of the conference in a tournament to which three teams did not come?

"I was bitterly disappointed at losing to Florida, of course, but I knew that my team could not go on winning games forever. Bobby Jones lost a golf match occasionally. No team or individual is invincible.

"I do not mean to take away from Florida any of the credit it deserves for winning that game. They outplayed us and they won, but I am inclined to feel that my team is the better of the two."

Just cause it's slow, here'sa preview of Florida. They're probably going to be a little bit better than last year with the transfers. Make or break year for White IMO.

They'll win 19-21 games, get into the tournament as a 6 or 7 seed, and lose in the second round.

And in up and down fashion. They will lose to UGA and beat Kentucky the next night, be on the Bubble, make it in then upset someone before bowing out. It's White's MO. He was my top choice as a coach when he took the Florida job. Man, I whiffed on that one.
