The real question (if he comes back) we should be asking is does he start?

I think, like it or not, the answer is yes.

I don't think it really matters. Minute allotment will be interesting. He played the #2 most % of minutes last year behind Petty, so I'd assume he'll play quite a bit this year too.

I mean Shack has limitations and some frustrating aspects to his game at times, but he was a key part of our team last year and with Primo gone he'll be a key part this year. He'll play a lot. Just hope he gets better/adjusts to a few things and improves.

He had a 100+ offensive rating in 22 of our 33 games. However, he was a disaster in the UCLA game (his worst of the year) and had some other games when he struggled (@ Arkansas, @ Oklahoma, @ Missouri). And that's what a lot of us remember.

I will gladly take him. When his shot is on he can take over a game. Just gotta quit with the blind drives with heaving up shots with no chance

I like that crimson crossover site, they may not be given access to practice or stuff like that but they do a good job. If they ever went subscription based I would subscribe.

Props to them for doing what 247, Al.com, Tuscaloosa news ect isn't for some reason and trying to provide bball coverage for bama bball fans.

He seems to fit in the system very good. But i do not like the combination of JQ, JD, and Shack on the floor all together. Maybe they could play super fast and get to the rim and get a lot of shots off. But i dont think they'd be able to play enough defense against most teams.

Shack would be kinda perfect for that instant offense/spark role that Oats likes to have with his 6th man.

Same - and can't imagine we'd see it much.

I could see that. Hopefully this year Shack is able to spot up more and not feel like he has to attack the rim like he did at times last year when we were injured and struggling. With Ellis, JD/JQ he should see a lot more space, which he needs to succeed (both on drives and catch and shoot).

I'll be honest I was pretty sad to see him go, because I think THIS team's makeup really could help him be more efficient offensively with JD/JQ next to him controlling the dribble drive from the point.

100%

I think he could lose a starting spot at some point if somebody steps up and takes his spot, but to begin the year he definitely starts imo.

JQ should definitely start to begin the season as well regardless of his spectacular 6th man role last season.

JD the 6th man to start the season? We can't go JQ, JD and Shack as starters can we? Defense might be suspect as hell.

JQ
Shack
Ellis
Gary
Gurley

Total guess obviously.

JD, Nimari, and Miles next as guards with Holt getting whatever minutes he can until he gets a little stronger and is fully up to speed.

KAH, Tchikou, Bediako in who knows what order in the frontcourt.

Where am I wrong based off what we know right now?

With Shack back my expectations are pretty much back to where they were. I believe Darius Miles can and will step up to pick up the slack Primo left behind

Id prefer to see

JQ
Shack
Ellis
Gurley
Tchikou

But it all depends on Tchikou being ready.

I agree with that, Burnett, Ellis, Gurley, and Gary are all really good defenders, seems like we would have to mix two of them with two of the others you mentioned in most lineups. I do want Shack back, I like him, we know what we would be getting, he knows the system inside out.

I think that looks about right. One of JD, JQ, Shack is going to be the "Super 6th man". I'm guessing that will just be something Oats decides based on who he thinks fits the starter/first off the bench role mentally better.

I think people are sleeping on him. He showed potential last season when he got in.

I’ve read from multiple people(including NickStamp at BOL and Jordan Harper) that Tchikou is not having a great offseason and is basically being stubborn with his rehab.

This is also a huge part with us losing so many guys, including Primo.

As we know from Year 1 and even the start of last year, you need a certain level of comfort from a majority of guys running the systems and making split second decisions or else it can look like a trainwreck.

Bringing back Shack means you will have some combination of 3 guys with experience playing in most all of our lineup between JQ, Shack, Ellis, Gary, KAH and Miles. Plus you throw in a very experienced guy in Gurley and you feel good that the system will be run pretty well with whoever you throw on the floor.

I think KAH certainly proved he can provide solid minutes, which matters. My hope is he carves out a "play 9 minutes at max capacity" role next year - kind of like Gary did at the start of his run to major minutes.

thank you thank you. We definitely appreciate it and that’s exactly why we made that site, bc no one else would cover it.

You guys do great stuff and do it in a way that shows you care about Alabama but not in a homer way....or in a "chasing internet cred" way....which is super refreshing.

He has a pretty versatile skillset. He just hasnt learned to do any particular thing exceptionally well yet. But he had a huge Sportscenter top ten dunk. I think it's a "waiting for the light to come on" situation with him. If he gets a little confidence, he can be a good player.
