Loss last night was bad from a "how we played" standpoint. It wasn't even close to bad from a resume/bad loss standpoint. It'll be a Q1 or at the very worst Q2 loss.

It's funny to me to see LSU and Auburn fans around other sites crowing over last night and our Iona loss.

Its just the people who enjoy trolling or the football fans that only pay attention to basketball for a couple of months, like every loss is the end of the world.

It's not the loss., it's how we played. We've been killed on the boards the last 2 games and to win big we can't have that happen. We've been lamenting the play of our bigs

C’mon man... It’s a $20 bet. We’re not talking about the mortgage or anything. Let’s just say I did a lot worse with a $20 bill when I was in college.

The more the merrier ITT, but let’s not turn it into a shite-posting marathon. Yesterday sucked. So did the guarantees, predictions, and name calling that went with it. Let’s move along, because this is the only decent Bama basketball conversation some of us get.

while that’s true, 90% teams don’t crash the boards like Memphis and Houston. We just happened to play the two best aac teams in a row and that’s how the conference plays. I think we’ll be fine. Also, I’m trying to move on from the bs last night but the petty comprende uncalled for. Y’all always got something to say and then I’m the bad guy when I respond back.

I can't watch the games because I am bad luck. It appears Nate and the Team got a little ahead of themselves as far as how good they were at this time.

That beatdown should reset them.

I haven't said anything to you. You're entitled to your opinion as far as I am concerned.

IMO we have to get much better in the post or we don't win the conference this time.

Obviously the last two games have highlighted the issue, but I’d be curious to see how this team compares to last year’s on the boards. On paper, I expected more production from our post players this season, but we might have actually had more length on the floor last season with Petty, Herb, and Reese playing a lot of minutes together. They weren’t giants, but they played very long for guards.

We have size this year, but it’s not across the board like we saw last season, especially when we we have a combination of JQ, JD, Shack, and Ellis on the court with Gary.

Oddly enough, I feel like Gary rebounded better playing completely out of position last season than he has so far this season, but that could just be perception or decency bias.

Disclaimer: I’ve reviewed absolutely no stats to support any of my thoughts or theories in this post and they are not founded in any mathematical or scientific manner.

I think that one of our issues the last 2 games rebounding has been getting beat off the dribble. We've ended up in situations where we are all rotating to help, and when everyone is figuring out where to go to crash down and help, you aren't able to concentrate on sticking your arse on a guy when the shot goes up.

So everyone around the rim ends up in motion trying to get to the man they are rotating over to, and they either are on their way there or just arrive as the ballhandler is shooting. The man they're sprinting to is attacking the glass as they are trying to break down and follow him there. When the opponent is long and quick, you have no shot to keep him off the rim.

That happened constantly against Memphis last night.

I may get proven wrong but I really don't think it's that at all.

Go to Seattle and play #3 Gonzaga in a very hostile environment. It was an emotionally draining game plus the cross country travel effect.

Follow that game up with top-15 Houston where the emotional challenge was almost as big AND they got the crap beat out of them physically.

Both of those were wins, but unlike Gonzaga to Houston, they didn't have a week to recover and re-center. That quick turnaround is a pretty big challenge and I don't think they were ready for what it demanded.

I do agree, though that the loss should serve a good purpose. As loaded as the SEC is, that's the way conference play is going to be every single week.

We were able to switch so effortlessly last year because we had forwards playing the 5. Integrating a clunky, raw big is gonna have its growing pains for sure. I definitely think this year’s team has a much higher ceiling then last year’s because we have a big to run a pnr and put guards on an island, but when shots aren’t falling and the lanes are clogged I’d honestly like to see some lineups with Gary running the 5 with JD/JQ/Shack/Ellis as the guards. We’re lacking a true wing this year after losing Primo and Herb, and we’re having to play guards at the 3&4, and if we don’t our spacing is fricked. Until Darius Miles becomes a threat putting the ball on the floor and creating for himself, we’re gonna have to wait for Brandon Miller next year to fill that void and I’d hate to waste this elite backcourt depth we have this year.

We miss Herb. Wasn’t much offensively but he meant a lot when he was on the floor

Yeah, I saw you mention that like maybe during the Houston game. Then I think I heard Oats mention it in the press conference. So, apparently you were spot on,

JD and JQ not being able to stay in front of people is our biggest problem IMO. I agree with SOG that’s getting us out of position and is a big reason we aren’t rebounding. Nimari was gonna be that guy for us.

I doubt Oats would do it because he purely runs man from what I’ve Seen but would going to a zone defense help us?
