I think we’re a matchup nightmare for CSU. Their guards are good shooters but have a difficult time creating for themselves, and they’re soft and slow down low. If we can get out in transition and open the floor we’ll kill them. Houston and Memphis concern me more because of their athleticism, physicality down low, and the speed to close out on shooters. Both their offenses completely lack a pulse in the halfcourt though, so we should win both, but they can make it uncomfortable for us.
i dont know, all 3 are good. ill just say im most excited and annoyed about the csu one, because they seem to play alot like us and theyre good at it. early sample size but id say theyre a top 5 seed. their bigs arent very big but they didnt seem slow to me at all. their team help defense seems solid. then the main reason id put them over the other 2 is because they can really shoot at every position while not turning it over much, so yea bama getting in transition is key but our D will have to show up like it mostly did in the zaga game to do it. they basically play that modern positionless type of style very well. then that roddy guy....very annoying (cant wait to see gary shut him down). yea, none are expected cake walks but to me that csu one in particular could be nuts.

Watched the Gonzaga game on replay...missed it live.
Very impressive win.
Mainly with how they responded to Gonzaga runs. Even with the fouls against them piling up.
I thought a few fouls were ticky tack, but not all. Alabama just played aggressive. Too aggressive at times.

I watched Mark Few’s postgame presser. He gave our team a lot of credit for coming out with energy and getting 50/50 balls.
He also alluded to basically letting some of our guys take the 3. Im guessing he meant JD and probably Gary bc of their 3P%. It obviously backfired bc it just gave JD an opportunity to get some confidence.

Exactly: Gonzaga made 4 or 5 runs to cut into our lead with 18k fans going nuts behind them and every time we had an answer.
I also agree that we legitimately fouled more than Gonzaga without counting the 6-8 close calls on both sides that always seemed to go their way.
Taken in isolation there were some fouls that seemed overly aggressive to the point of "foolish" (after e Gonzaga defensive rebound or far away from goal.
However, I'd be quick to add that I think this was, generally, by design. Seems Oats had driven home the idea that we were constantly going to be all over them. No respite. You could see it getting under their skin too; they were "annoyed" by some of those "foolish" fouls which coupled with the pressure defense kept them uncomfortable.

They damn sure are glad they wont see another team like us until March. Oats brings high pressure defense and high pressure offense. Nobody gets to take a night off when you play against the tide.
Our guard play is at such a high level right now. We have three nightmare guards for any team to deal with. Any one of them would be a problem individually. But now Oats can send them in waves.
Pretty sure we havent had three guards this good on the same team during my lifetime.

Random note from Gonzaga

"The 16-point halftime deficit was the biggest for the Zags since a loss to Memphis back in 2009."

There were a few really foolish fouls - after one the Bama player was getting a little lippy at the ref and you could see Oats look at our guy (forgot who it was) and say "that's a foul."
Overall, though, I think you're absolutely right. There's no doubt in my mind it was intentional. Gonzaga shot 63% from the line vs Duke, 58% vs Tarleton, and 52% vs Bama. As a team, they're shooting them for the season about like us (upper 60s). With the way Oats eats up analytics, you'll never convince me he didn't know that and decide going 'hack a Shaq lite' would be a profitable strategy.

Interested to see where we are in the NET today. Have played a really solid schedule and have 5 top 100 KP wins, including over Gonzaga. But that Iona loss definitely will hurt us even though they aren’t terrible. frick Pitino

I missed the game. That Gonzaga team is LOADED. That’s the best win we’ve had in a LONG time.
