I'd say USA is a dangerous team that can surprise teams if they have an "on" night, especially if they have the defensive intensity they did last night. They'll be average or below average in W-L at the end of the season.

Agreed. Bediako catching the ball a step behind the free throw line will result in something negative 75% of the time. He’s looked so much better than I expected though.

As for our lineups, we ran some out there during the game that had me scratching my head. Hopefully we can get that settled soon.

Yeah those kind of 2 man game concepts just take some time for guys to develop chemistry on. Stockton and Malone didn't perfect the pick and roll in their 3rd game together. It took at least 6.

Re the seating issue, I agree 100% as a fan

As a season ticket holder that does show up, not so much. I’ll get moved back, those folks with the floor seats will not.

But yea, do it.

Wish they would just open the floodgates after halftime and if a seat is unclaimed then you can take it.

During some of the really down years they did this with the December non-conference games. In fact we got asked from up in row 15 to come sit courtside during a couple of those post-Christmas games where the students were gone and nobody showed up.

I’m honestly not sure how long we have him. He affected and blocked shots all night and has shown flashes on offense

I'll definitely be interested to track South Alabama the rest of the season. They've basically played the exact same game 2 in a row against us and Wichita. The rest of their OOC schedule is pretty easy - San Diego, USM, Jax St, Tartleton St (2x), SIU Edwardsville, UT-A (plus 3 D2 games which is kind of strange).

They are super long and athletic, I just don't know how that will look night in and night out in the Sun Belt. They really do remind me of an old SEC team from the early 2000s that can't shoot (which makes sense as their roster is basically guys from SEC teams that played that way). Those teams (like some of ours) could drag you down into the pit into a 40 minute dogfight if you let them and started playing the way they wanted you to.

I could see them going 11-7 in that league and then winning the conference tournament or something.

If a lifetime of following Alabama basketball has told me anything it's that South Alabama fricking blows and will finish with something like a 13-17 record. These early season poor showings against mid-majors always leave us claiming (hoping) they're actually pretty good so it's not a big deal, and they inevitably end up being complete shite. The difference is that this year we won so it really won't ever matter outside of the fact that the margin isn't going to help us with NET down the road.

Has anyone gotten a notification from Alabama yet on whether or not you qualified to purchase SEC tournament tickets outside of the initial opt in?

Why does most of the complaining about low attendance come from people not at the game? The preponderance of no shows are because out of town ticket holders have a hard time getting to work day games, especially 6:30 pm games. I am also perturbed by the attendance. The student section was not full last night either.

fricking St. Peter's. That game, by itself, kept that team out of the NCAAs. But like I said, we're starting to win games where we play like shite. That's the big difference between now and what we have been over the last 20+ years. When Oats' teams play their C game they still find ways to give themselves a shot to win it instead of collapsing in the final 4 minutes of the game.

Seems the complaints are more about the visuals on TV of all the empty seats in the Tide Pride sections while the student section is pretty full. Move those students into the camera's main field of view, and the complaints likely go away. It just looks really bad on TV when there's an easy solution.

I don't think folks are complaining about general attendance, more so specific attendance of those who have seats on the floor and seem to only be filled on weekends against big teams.

When they panned out you could see that general attendance was just fine. Student section was packed, all levels of the arena had looked 60-70% filled. For a Monday night game against USA that's pretty solid.

It is hard to describe to those outside the program how big of a deal that change is.

I never really thought we were going to lose last night. When they cut the 9 point lead to nothing I was more annoyed than anything.

When they tied it after we went on that 10-0 run I thought we were right in 50/50 territory where it would come down to if they had a guy get hot and make 2-3 crazy shots or not.

But we grinded out a 4-6 point lead at the 3 minute mark and keep them at arms length the rest of the way.

I mean to be fair there have been plenty of games in the past that we lost that I didn't ever think we were going to lose. My feel for games should generally be ignored.

On the other hand, it feels like my go to of "nah, we'll frick this up in the end" generally turns out right on average, but that's probably just being a Bama basketball fan.
