I don't want to fire him or anything
I don’t even think this needs to be stated. As sorry as this team finished the season, it’s still the 3rd best Alabama basketball team any of the players we’re recruiting can remember seeing.
No one in college was alive for the Wimp years or old enough to remember the good Gottfried years.
I think we can be critical of the coach without having to clarify we don’t want him fired because no serious poster would suggest firing Oats.
All that said, Oats and staff did a sorry job with this group. The team looked poorly coached most of the year.
Mind numbing turnovers and fouls, little off ball movement on offense, consistently poor defense, inexcusable losses - This isn’t one Oats would put on his CV.

The only criticism I have of Oats is that guys, outside of Bediako, didn’t seem to develop at all as the season went on. JD got no better. And several guys such as Q and Gary seem to regress from last year. Ellis didn’t make the next step like we thought he would. And the team didn’t develop. We regressed. We played our best ball before Christmas and lost four in a row to the end of the season.

I have changed my mind on Kobe Brown after today's shite show. If he wants in, sign him and figure it out later. He's tough like Rojas but actually good at basketball.

That being said, we still made the tourney. If making the tourney is the floor, Oats is doing a pretty good job. I agree next year is a pivotal year for Oats. It’s a big offseason as he tries to piece next year’s roster together.

If you put a reasonable thought like this on Twitter, you’re vilified. It’s all or nothing. Either everything is sunshine and rainbows or if you say he did a poor job this year, you want to fire Oats and never see him in Tuscaloosa again.
The correct take is that we can acknowledge this year was pretty disappointing with failures all around while also saying our program is clearly in better shape than most of us have seen in our lives, sadly.

When you have 1 & 3 show up for shoot arounds the night before/day of a March madness game…

Oats said post game that JD played a great game. There's building a player up and then there's detachment from reality. He could say he had some really good moments or something, but definitely not a blanket statement that he played great.
Anyway...no team is perfect, but I just want a team that plays smart and intense defense. We had neither this year. Just a low basketball IQ team...not aware of situations and sloppy with the ball.

I guess it will take another year to see if last year or this year was the fluke.
Or both years were.
Or both years were.

Let's face it! Nate Oats is a high school math teacher. The only way Oats will win a championship is if he return to the high school level. Trust me THIS SHIP IS SINKING and next year a lot more passengers will be aboard to get rid of the captain. Nate Oats owe all his success from last year to Herbert Jones. Without Herb, Oats might already be on the hot seat. Remember, it's no pressure when you're having fun. By the way, Kristy Curry should've been fired! Every year she gets praised for early season wins only to falter in the conference. People keep talking about a team she took to the tournament when I was in baby clothes.

The only thing that would make this worse is if we have to watch Auburn go to another Final 4.

At least we can check off having to worry about LSU and the final Four this year.
