I'm sure some boosters will step in and arrange NIL deals to mostly hold the roster together for now. Wouldn't be surprised if they still lost a few guys they don't want to lose though since NIL deals are everywhere, but not every coach will pay your mama's rent straight out of his personal bank account.

Kobe Brown (Huntsville native) at Missouri and Mark Sears (Muscle Shoals native) at Ohio are two guys I would keep an eye on if they enter the portal. With Cuonzo getting fired, I think Kobe will enter the portal. Sears has been awesome for Ohio and would be a great fit at Alabama.
Jordan Harper…..please God be true

I haven't seen Sears play, but he was almost a 50/40/90 guy this season, and we really could have used that kind of shooting. He's small and turns the ball over a ton though. I'd have to dig more into that.
I don't see how Brown is a fit at all though. What's his role?

A big upgrade on Gurley and Gary?
Shame he can’t shoot from 3. I’m guessing that’s your main fit question? But my lukewarm take is we maybe obsess about fit a bit too much. See last summers discussion on Kofi Cockburn. I don’t know if he was a great fit, but he would have been our best player by a literal mile.
I think he’d immediately improve our rebounding, defense, toughness, etc. He really bullied us this year. And he’s pretty skilled, outside of the 3 point shooting.
I’d take him in a heartbeat, personally. Biggest need is a long wing that can defend and shoot the 3, but I’d like to see us snag multiple guys from the portal. Stop signing high school and JUCO projects, and start being more aggressive in the portal.
(I’m not saying we were wrong to sign Pringle. I don’t know enough about him to say. We have signed some high school projects in the last few years though, and I’m not sure you need to do that anymore).

Sears seems like a clear take, statistically. Good shooter, a ball handler, somehow averaged 6 rebounds a game as a 6’1 PG, etc.
Edit: not excusing his turnovers, but my guess is his usage rate was super high. Also that will help him fit in.

Yeah, that was my initial thought. Gary moreso than Gurley since Gurley at least, before this year, had a track record of being a capable shooter. And my skepticism about Brown is because he's a better version of Gary, who saw his minutes dwindle down to practically nothing presumably because he is neither a ball handler nor a shooter.
I think Brown's actual role for us would be an upgraded Rojas. But is that enough of a role for a guy who is going to have a lot of options?

My guess is he’d walk into the starting lineup for us, but he’d probably only average about 9-10 points a game. If he wants to be the focal point of the offense, then yeah he should go elsewhere.
Gurley’s shot just looks absolutely broken to me. I don’t ever think it’s going in - from the 3 point line, the FT line, etc. I don’t know how he ever shot 34% from 3.
That being said, he did improve as the season went on. Brown is a much better rebounder and just a better overall player though.
Sad that Gary regressed so dramatically this year. I don’t even have any read on whether he’ll be back.

Gurley is returning so he has a spot. Brandon Miller is the long athlrtic wing that will defend and shoot the 3.

We definitely need more wings that can shoot and defend. Everybody needs more of those guys. Hopefully Miller and Griffen can do it, but we need as many of those types as we can get. Especially since we’re losing Keon.
Gurley definitely has a spot, not arguing that.

Actually griffen fits that wing mold as well. Sears i think is too small, im kinda done with us having 6'0 and 6'1 guards. Not sure brown would fit here but his physical traits would be helpful.

Having one guy who is in the 5'11"-6'1" range isn't necessarily a huge defensive problem. He won't be very switchable even if he has a relatively big wingspan for a guy that size, but Sears recorded more steals by himself this season than JD and Quinerly did combined, so at a minimum it seems like he's a pest. If either JD or Quinerly had just been defensive pests we probably would have won a few more games than we did.

Fair point. I think having more length next year overall is gonna benefit us defensively. Even bradley at 6'3 has a long wingspan. That appeared to be a theme with the staff when they assembled this recruiting class. All these guys have high "basketball" iq too .

After some quick, and admittedly limited, YouTube research, Sears plays pretty much exactly like Quinerly on offense but with less quickness and a tighter handle. And "pest" does appear to be an accurate description of him defensively. He plays scrappy even though he's small. He just doesn't look particularly athletic to me, which is always a concern when you're talking about guys moving up from a mid-major conference to a P-6 conference.

Yeah i worry about mid major transfers adjusting to top competition every night. It took gurley some time ,but he wasnt misevaluated because florida, arkansas, and several others besides us wanted him so he would have had to adjust no matter where he went. Itll be interesting to see the names out there during portal season.

Whether it’s Sears or another name, we’ve gotta bring in a transfer PG. Going into next year with just Bradley as a ball handler would be a disaster waiting to happen.

What if JD wants to come back?
I wouldn't be comfortable with just him and Bradley as our ball handlers, I don't think playing JD off ball will solve anything, and it's going to scare away transfer PGs.

6'1 with a 4.2/3.3 assist/turnover ratio. He averaged 19.5 points and shot 42.1% from 3 in 140 attempts, and 44.6% overall. 6 rpb from a 6'1 pg tells me he's probably a hustler. But damn, that's inefficient a/t numbers from a pg.

Well miller and griffen can handle it also, but curious as to why u see bradley as a disaster? Guy is a great , high iq point guard and hes faced waaayyy better high school comp than jd ... And im not slamming jd by any means

He's a take off the jump. We need his shooting period!
