Yeah rim protection was horrible and rebounding was pretty bad. I think we may end up having to play Nelson at the 5 unless Pringle can become consistent or Wague can play without fouling so much.

Ohio State is a good team and will most likely be a tournament team, but I honestly think we'd beat them 7 out of 10 times, they played over their heads tonight and we played a lot worse than we're capable of. I'm more worried about this 3 game stretch coming up of Purdue, Creighton, and Arizona. If we don't play a lot better than we did tonight we will get blown out in those games. The good news is we are capable of playing a lot better than we did tonight.

Today, Bama gave up a combined 52 points to the opposing guard duo.
Our guard duo of Sears and Estrada combined for 36 points.
If Sears and Estrada become a weakness on defense, they should score 52 points on offense, just like the opposing team's guard duo.

Starting 5 should be
Sears
Estrada
Wrighsell
Nelson
Wague
And that is an older, experienced group. I agree that may be our finishing group.

Somebody posted a chart the other day about defensive efficiency...I think Cosby was one of the better defenders.

They will get better.
I'm not going to panic. I did see some halfway decent defense in the second half...small sample size though.
Communication has to be better on that end.

I agree but a lot of that differential was at the foul line. Their main two guards scored 19 of those 57 from the foul line.
Sears and Estrada combined scored 4 points from the foul line. I am not saying we got screwed by the refs or anything, both teams shot close to the same number of free throws, but their guards were better at drawing fouls than ours tonight by a lot.
Nelson seemed to be the most intent on driving to the basket on our team and he did end up getting fouled a good bit and was 9 of 9 on free throws.

I’m honestly not that confident. Although we have a decent roster. We clearly have some major deficiencies. There are also some issues with Oat’s philosophies which cause our losses to lopsided instead of nail biters. In a close game in the second half only down by five you should not be throwing up contested threes. We watched Ohio State take good looks and have movement on offense. In tight games we need to take better shots.
Sears is good against mid majors but he struggles against formidable opponents. Not a good dribbler and can’t finish around the basket. JQ is greatly missed from a penetration standpoint.
Pringle has been atrocious and ima huge Pringle fan. He looks nothing like the player he was last year. Numerous rebounds he looked disinterested in grabbing. He’s not blocking out or fighting for position.
Rylen needs to be moved to the second team. Can’t create a shot and has no handles.
I hope the coaches can correct some of this but this year I don’t think we have the jimmies and joes. We have to recruit more athletic players. Not one of our guards can play above the rim.

I agree about Sears. I think Estrada is bigger, quicker, and craftier around the basket and should be the main PG. Sears is probably our best shooter so SG would be ideal for him.
I love Oats' offensive philosophy and don't have and don't blame it for the loss, we had an off night for us offensively and still scored 81, we just couldn't get any stops when we needed to.

Except Sears has been significantly better than Q this season so far.

Who's letting me borrow their FloHoops login so that I don't have to subscribe for 20 dollars to watch us play tomorrow?

If we lose tomorrow with them missing their two best players then I will be freaking out with you. We should beat them.

I don’t think anybody is gonna pay for that shitty website to watch 1 game. I doubt anybody here will be watching with that game being the same time as the IronBowl.
But if you do then more power/respect to you.

Stevenson needs to communicate more on the floor.
Box out, man-to-man defense, outside defense, etc. I have a more positive view of defense than I thought. It's unfortunate that the rebound number is low, but seeing him box out means there's a chance that this too can go in a positive direction.
Team defense requires a lot of communication. In the process of going to help defense and returning, problems of overlapping with other players or missing moments in rotational defense sometimes occur, so we need to communicate a lot in defense.
Also, the referee is different every time. Soft calls and hard calls are different every time. Adapting to the referee's foul calls is also a challenge.

I'm not too worried about Stevenson's offense, but on days like today where he doesn't make 3-point shots, I have to think of other ways to participate in the offense. We need to participate more actively in offensive rebounds and try drive-in.

Youre probably right.

Sorry for calling you a drama queen earlier, you've been right about our defense needing to be a lot better. It's definitely not as bad as 188th or whatever you were saying but it's for sure gotta get a lot better regardless.

I was all here after Alabama proved they weren't a great team last year when OU ran them off the court.
Bama was a 1 seed with the easiest bracket ever and couldn't get past the Sweet 16.
Like I said, same old Alabama basketball.

You’re so exasperating and a pathetic troll
Get out of this thread, the cow college could use a degenerate fan like you. If you hate Bama basketball that much then get out, but you’re just miserable to even try and talk to.
