The design rendering was pretty sweet though. We’ll always have that memory.

Honestly I didn't even like it that much. The gut job/reno of Coleman (remember that from when the whole Crimson Standard boondoggle was first announced?) looked a lot better to me.

If the Clemson game and Jay Williams calling it out wasn’t embarassing enough to build a new one….then nothing will be.
I thought Byrne was gonna be different but I guess not.

Ala basketball fans have never shown up until January. I'm not sure building a new arena fixes that.
I bet 70% of season ticket holders don't live in Tuscaloosa. Going to an 8:30 tip is impossible for most.

We still had about 9,000 fans. Which in a new smaller Arena would give a great environment instead of a 15,000 seat cave with massive empty spots
Auburn Arena has like 5,000-6,000 at some games but because of Arena and seating design it always looks full and is a good environment.

Let’s get some predictions on record. What seed do you guys think we will be in the NCAA tournament? I say a 4 seed.
Posted on 1/3/24 at 4:44 pm to CrimsonFever
I say we go 12-6 in league play and end up with a 5 seed.
Posted on 1/3/24 at 5:19 pm to CrimsonFever
Just a prediction:
I think we do continue to improve the defense and find some better answers to getting baskets on crucial trips to prevent big runs against us.
However, I'm reticent to say that will automatically mean we start to beat the vast majority of the other Top50-ish athletic teams we face.
I think I'm being slightly optimistic to predict we avoid upsets in the 4 easiest SEC games and split the others 7-7
I'll say 11-7 in the SEC and then probably a 6 or 7 seed.

True. Most season ticket holders are from Birmingham. I’ve been driving to games from Birmingham for over 40 years- and I was at the Clemson game. I was surprised the crowd wasn’t bigger, but no way any families with children can go to a game that late on a school night.

11-7.
19-12 overall
Win 1 game in SECt
Enter tournament with a record of 20-13 and a 6 or 7 seed

Wouldn’t be anything wrong with that considering all we lost last year. I am hoping we have better luck this 2nd half of the season and start putting together some wins against good teams and live up to our top 10 ranking on the analytics sites.

I hope so too!
Completely agree with you that 11-7 in the SEC and a solid 6-7 seed in the NCAA tourney is nothing to scoff at in a season where we replace Miller, Bediako, Clowney and JQ.
And, once you're in the tourney anything can happen.
I'm certainly optimistic about seeing a lot of improvement as the season progresses.
However, I suspect we're slightly overrated by the analytics and jumping so much off the Liberty blowout kind of confirms why I think that.
Liberty's a solid team but I'm not sure those analytics reflect the degree to which we're struggling with the type of bigger, highly athletic teams that make up most of the remaining schedule.
Maybe I'm totally wrong and Ohio St and Clemson are just on a completely superior level to Texas A&M, Florida, Miss St, Arkansas or even South Carolina and Ole Miss -- not to even mention Tennessee, Kentucky and AU.
Based on watching those games though, even if I'm hopeful that we do much better than split all those SEC match ups, I haven't seen the reason yet to believe we should expect it.

Maybe but Vegas has us ranked similarly to the analytic sites, we have the 11th best odds to make the final 4.

Yeah, I really don't know that much about how Vegas sets odds. From the eye test against Arizona, Purdue etc. we certainly look like a team that stands a very decent chance of beating both a #2 and #3 seed, for example, over a tourney weekend and getting to a Final Four.
We're already a team for which a tourney run would not be surprising.
Just based on watching the games, my concern about the 14 or so "tougher" SEC games is that we're going to shoot teams off the court in some of those games but many more are going to come down to physical, dig in, street fights down the stretch. That's where so far the best teams have just made more plays than us to get out with the win. So far.
I'm excited for the season as there's a lot of reason to think we improve and I think it's a fun team to watch. I'm just waiting to see some 2nd half crunch times against teams like Miss St or Auburn that don't look like ones against Ohio St or Clemson.

Liunardi has us as a 6 seed in his latest bracket update.

Arkansas roster has to be one of the worst returns on investment in the NIL era so far. I wonder how much they spent on all those transfers and aren’t even projected to make the tournament as of today.
Still have time to turn it around possibly but they haven’t looked very good up to this point.

Jaykwon Walton’s been pretty bad this season. In 8 of their 11 games he has scored under 10 points, the most he has scored in a game this season is 11 and he’s playing about 30 minutes a game.
He’s shooting 21% from three.
