How many of those teams get to have a Bye Week before playing us? The SEC has been screwing us in that regard for years.

This wasn’t nearly as big of an issue when we had the most intense preparer for a coach that ever existed. With DeBoer, he clearly doesn’t have the intensity or work ethic to overcome this disadvantage the way Saban did and it showed when we lost to mediocre Vandy and Oklahoma teams who had an extra week. We beat UGA and LSU when we both had the bye weeks.

My hope is that DeBoer learned a lesson last year about the “mediocre” SEC teams, but I fear it may be more about his coordinators needing that intensity to offset him. We have it now in Grubb, but not sure how long he’ll stay. The good thing is if they expand the playoffs, a bad loss or two to a team that has extra prep time won’t necessarily kill your season, and DeBoer is pretty good against good teams with extra prep time.

I disagree, there are 12 reasons we could miss the playoffs this season. We have to play and win 10 of those reasons more than likely.

There is not a legitimate reason Alabama is not in the playoffs most seasons. I’m not trying to be argumentative. If someone thinks it is okay for Alabama to not be a team who competes for championships MOST of the time I would say those are probably mediocre people who are satisfied with mediocrity. Alabama is NOT a mediocre/average program. It’s an OUTSTANDING program and most coaches would love to have the advantages Alabama has.I can’t believe there are Alabama fans who would disagree with this.

Was it not? I seem to remember us going 9-3 with what might be the most talented roster in the history of the program. And this was after six of our opponents that season had bye week before facing us. All three teams who beat us that season had an extra week to prepare for us due to being off.

It’s a reasonable assertion, but I don’t know if I’d attribute the Stephen Garcia game or the number of fluke things that happened in the Iron Bowl due to extra week. We had the bye week same as LSU prior to that loss. Saban seemed to suggest our underperformance was due to complacency after the 2009 championship.

It was obviously a ridiculous schedule to have 6 teams off byes, but the only one that might have played a factor in the loss is SC in my opinion. And I just tip my cap to Stephen Garcia…he turned into Johnny Football for one game, unfortunately. Still shows how good Saban was that it took those types of effort to beat him even when 6 teams had byes.

And I would agree with this assertion. That and there were a select few players who seemed to care more about their draft stock than they did results on the field. But let's not forget that Saban was just as human as the next man. He is 100% one of the greatest to ever pace a sideline but he was still a human being like the rest of us.

Proctor is slow and overweight. If he isn't better, this team will struggle. The QB needs time.

Are you sure about that?

If Ty can read blitz, call a hot route and climb the pocket we will be vastly improved up front.

The first time I see us throw a hot route slant behind a blitz I’m going to be unreasonably excited.

We have an outstanding program.

The problem we face that Saban never faced is other outstanding programs with arguably deeper pockets than we have.

But I agree that we should be in the playoffs more seasons than not. The thing is we can’t just show up with the Crimson jerseys and have it happen because we’re Alabama anymore. And that would be the case if Saban was still on the sideline. He’s a man, not a god or a sorcerer.
