Takeaways from SEC Media Days

Each of the 3 players have eluded that the QB battle is legitimately tight and it comes down to pure ability from Keelon vs experience and poise basically from Austin.
Keelon has been described as lightning in a bottle whereas Mack was called the human playbook by RCW.
Theres a legitimate chance that Mack starts for us week 1. I think he will, and the only way we see Keelon is if Mack struggles week 2 @ Kentucky.
On the flip side they could go with Keelon for the potential upside then we may see Mack slide in if Keelon shows freshman flaws on the road @ Kentucky.
DeBoer said he prefers picking one guy and rolling with it, which kind of explains last seasons lack of QB change when we saw the late season woes.

That's your opinion of course. Just from the data I have, i.e., hearing conversations about practices, watching the A Day game, Keelon will be the guy. If Mack is the QB, in a QB centric offense, let's just say you better hope the defense is really, really, really good.

And that the defense gets plenty of reps against Keelon in practice so they're ready to stop him at whatever school he's starting for next season.

Im just taking DeBoers exact words from media days and using logic.

Mack definitely hasn't shown anything publicly to think he should be the starter.

I watched the Press Conference in its entirety and not sure where you picked that up.
I did see where you mentioned DeBoer saying something like “people will be surprised with Mack’s mobility”. Mack is going to play in games no doubt. We will have blowouts and whoever loses the competition is still going to play. I wouldn’t let that sentence do too much heavy lifting.

If KR doesn’t start (on any roster in the SEC) then the HC/OC need to be lined up against a wall and shot by a firing squad imo. He’s the type of player that only comes around every so often. The guys has the potential to turn any play at any time into an explosive play. He also throws a gorgeous (and consistent) deep ball that the offense needs as much (if not more importantly) than an improved run game. The ability to stretch the field vertically is CRUCIAL to what the staff wants to do offensively, and obviously forcing defenses to stay 2-high/split Safety coverage makes running the ball much easier.
Not to mention the improv/“broken plays” that KR routinely makes by “scrambling” to buy time to throw the ball down the field after the coverage breaks down is devastating.
There is no competition…the staff HAD to keep Mack here or they literally would be going into the season with 1 QB (that’s not a TF). This was their way of ensuring he stayed imo

I think KR will be QB1 from UK forward. But, I wouldn't be surprised to see the competition carry into the East Carolina game (in spite of CKD's statements otherwise on wanting QB1 named pre-season) with each getting a half to play and make their final case with reps at live game speed.

Bama is not returning to 2009-2012 just because y’all wish it were so.
Keelon will be the starter.
