Stupid Idea: Could an SEC 3rd Place Game (Or SEC Invitational) work?

Opt in game based on the standings. In theory, Tennessee opts out and Alabama and Ole Miss, with head to heads over South Carolina, play in Nashville or New Orleans on the morning of the SECCG

Positives:

1. Additional tough game for bubble teams
2. Money for the SEC
3. Provides great flexibility for the conference and its teams on participating
4. Substitute for the loser goes home vibe that the SECCG no longer has

Negative:

1. We would have been pressured into accepting the invite lest we get jumped by the winner of South Carolina-Ole Miss. Egg on our face if SMU actually pulled off the win

Thoughts other than “You’re An Idiot”?

I mean it's not far fetched idea.

The NFL has wildcard. .

Maybe CFP needs something similar for last slot(s).

Leave all the subjective decision making out of it and decision is made by result on the field.

Its a win-win for the conference giving a bubble team a big W

Hear me out....

We should have a 25 game schedule. Who would leave out a 20 win Alabama team?

The lesson of yesterday is certainly not that bubble teams benefit from having played tough games.

The SECCG should become a play-in game.

Uga and Tejas and Tenner were already in this year.
Should've let them rest and have BAMA play Ole Miss in ATL.

10 win BAMA or Ole Miss gets in over SMU, right??
SECWCG= SEC WildCard Game

The whole argument is being against punishing teams for playing an extra game. That point is never going away

In a sample size of one season, this format would have probably gotten the SEC another At Large Bid

After we saw what the committee did we need to schedule cupcakes and worry about making it to The SEC Championship game. Doesn’t matter if you win or not, just get there.

Dropping the Wisconsin game for Arkansas State doesn’t get us in this year. You could argue that Wisconsin going 10-2 on the season would have

We will NEVER have a schedule as easy as SMUs in the SEC. We could schedule Mountain Brook for all 4 OOC games and we’d still be in the Top 50

It seems to me that the Wisconsin game is an enigma. Oregon won a hard-faught 4th qtr comeback battle on the road 16-13.

fluff piece from ESPN about ORE/Wisc

People don't even remember what BAMA did to Wisconsin on the road.

ESPN didn't even bother to write an article about this game. LOL

What if we had played and beat Ole Miss Saturday?

BAMA will never have a schedule as easy as Tejas. Fans would riot if BAMA didn't play tenner, barn, LSU, etc. Tejas has natural rivalries with OU, Aggie, and Arky. It's a joke what Sankey did for Tejas their 1st 2 seasons in conference.

They showed us it doesn’t matter who you play, that your best path to the playoffs is to make a conference championship game. So why play anyone you have to spend a bunch of time prepping for? It’s hard enough to get thru the regular SEC schedule, don’t add any difficulty, just play chumps, an focus all your effort on making the championship game. You don’t even have to win, just make it.

EXACTLY. SECWCG!!

Ratings for BAMA vs Ole Miss for a spot in the playoff would've been fricking ENORMOUS.

The rivalry games need to go. Just play everyone on a rotating basis, makes it equal.

Yea that’s a whole can of worms too. Just look at the 2 SEC Championship participants. Their conference schedules weren’t on the same planet

I still believe that if Tejas had OU's schedule theyre a 6-7 win team. OU got absolutely thundercocked by Sankey.

I agree. Especially when the media is going to disregard wins in these games by certain teams while praising others for winning them. The response to Oregon beating Wisc compared to the media response to BAMA beating them was unbelievable.

It’s a problem in every mega conference. What if Indiana had Purdue’s conference schedule?
