I’ve always been under the impression that the S&C program is sort of where toughness and discipline gets established in a college football team. If that’s true, then what is the problem with Alabama’s S&C program? Our teams lack toughness and discipline.
Our lines still get pushed around. Defenders still miss tackles. These show a lack of toughness.
Players still commit tons of penalties, DBs and LBs still blow coverages, players don’t finish plays, neither unit can sustain for a full game. These show a lack of discipline.
This team has a lot of football problems, but at a basic level it lacks discipline and toughness, and it’s hard to fix all of the other issues without having those.

People seem to forget when Scott Cochran was still around, players were getting injured ALL THE TIME. Something in our S&C was causing problems and Scott wanted to be more than a S&C coach so he bolted to Georgia. He helped create the identity people knew Alabama as in the beginning and middle of 2010s for sure. But Alabama needed a more medically sound approach after a while.
Put it on Saban and Saban only. He’s not as bad as Bowden, but he’s gotten to the point where killing a MOFO across the board he feels like doesn’t equal as much success as he would like. Refer to the pat on the arse line from a few weeks ago.
It’s all Saban man. Don’t blame anyone else.

Cochran was the soul of those teams, and it hasn’t been the same since.

I’m bumping this thread because our offensive line is trash and our defensive line doesn’t exist at times. I continue to believe that our “science based approach,” while it may help reduce injuries, makes us less tough and less disciplined.
What does our S&C coach do during the games? He’s not trying to get guys fired up like Cochran did.

We need Tommy Moffit. Period. Moffit built LSU's tough teams under and after Saban.

How about the SC coach at Miami? He's from Alabama.
