Call me crazy…but I think we would have been better this season in the long run if we just rolled with Sherrell and Grant at the 5 and used Cliffs spot on a Will Riley, McNeely or another portal Wing that could shoot.

And if Sherrill gets hurt?

To early to make a call on Cliff. His value will be determined by SEC and tournament play. Personally, I’m glad we have him.

Offensively I definitely expected more but we’re undoubtedly better on defense

How'd we look? A mid-afternoon stream was just not possible for me today.

We rarely ever try to lob him the ball and it doesn’t seem like he rolls to the goal after a screen nearly as much as Pringle and Bediako would. I guess that’s by design?

Oats mentioned in postgame that they didn’t do enough to get him involved offensively today. Guessing we’ll see some more plays for him Saturday.

Field of 68 did a New Year’s resolution podcast for some of the highly rated teams this week and for Alabama two of the things were to get Cliff involved offensively and shoot less 3s and more layups. I don’t think we listened today

ETA: I do feel like each game we need to try to run something for Cliff at least once in the first four minutes. It’s hard to be engaged if you never get to touch the ball or even looked at on that end of the court even if defense is why you’re here.

saw first half and none of second half. Looks like it was a good overalll game. 2 starters scored 4 points total. I am not sure why they are still starters. Cliff and Jarin are those two

Not bad. Got lax on defense in the second half up big but it wasn’t anything like what happened against the other Dakota.

Some guys are still really struggling with on offense, though, and that worries me a lot coming to conference play.

A slight change I noticed. A lot of our 3 point shots were 5-6 feet further back thus making it a longer shot but also not a lot of defenders went out to guard them. I only watched the first half but we made a lot of 3's

We are now #1 in the country at converting 2pt attempts

Just need the 3s to fall fellas

It's even a little "simpler" than that. Just a couple of guys need to get the 3s to fall. Taking out Wrightsell, Bama's top 5 in 3 point attempts and their success rates last year were:

Sears 43.6%
Griffen 39.2%
Estrada 31.2%
Nelson 27.3%
Stevenson 31.7%

This year, thus far the top 5 in attempts are:

Sears 34.4%
Holloway 37%
Philon 26.8%
Stevenson 20.5%
Nelson 27%

Holloway/Griffen is pretty much a wash. Nelson's exactly the same. Philon's a little behind Estrada (but makes up for it some with his finishes at the rim).

The big dropoffs are Sears and Stevenson with Sears hurting the most because he takes more than anyone else on the team.

Fortunately Sears is straightening it out.

Since the 3 point nightmare against Oregon (1-11), he has been pretty rock solid the last 5 games shooting close to 42 percent from 3

One thing to add, I don't think we have seen Youngblood settled in yet. I think he feels a little too obligated to quick trigger questionably open shots based on our style of play. But you can tell his shot is pure, just a matter of settling down and finding his role.

Sears just isn't a contested/step back 3 kind of guy and he was trying to be more of that early on I think. He's at his best as an outside shooter when he hunts for his spots before the ball comes back to him though.

Youngblood and Mallette can shoot high percentages but Oats isn’t giving them enough minutes right now. Or Mo D.

It’s honestly driving me crazy.

Im completely on board with Mo D. I do think Youngblood and Mallette will get integrated more. Not sure Youngblood is 100 percent in game shape for our pace yet, but he is getting there.

Honestly, we just have too much talent to get enough guys minutes they deserve.

Stevenson seems to be shooting himself into a 3rd season in college, so if he needs to give up some minutes to Reid at the 4 (and Mo) and let Mallette or Youngblood play more minutes at the 3, I’d be fine with that. At this point, I’m not sure Reid is a good enough shooter to be playing much at the 3 given our 4s and 5s aren’t really shooters either.

Oats just isn’t gonna quit Jarin. It’s like Brian Snitker with Luke Jackson

This is what he says publicly but I am pretty sure privately he is fixing to cut his minutes. They need to crash the boards and make their own points on the O side. Him, 22, and Cliff

I think I remember reading when Cliff committed he was a 1.31 PPP on pick and roll plays. We need to do more of them.

So let’s put the ball in Philon hands and let Cliff set a pick and either Philon finishes or he lobs it to Cliff.
