They went 7/17 on field goals this year, and many of them were "makeable".

Worst 10 Teams Field Goal Points Over Expected

quote:

Worst 10 Teams in Field Goal Points Over Expected
1. Cincy -18.3
2. Tulane -18.1
3. Mississippi State -14.5
4. Northwesern -13.2
5. Nebraska -12.1
6. Ohio -9.84
7. Western Mich -8.74
8. Memphis -8.45
9. Arizona State -8.06
10. Marshall -7.01

They've used 3 different kickers this year - all 3 have at least 4 attempts.

1-29 yards : 3 of 4
30-39 yards : 3 of 8
40-49 yards : 0 of 3
50+ yards : 1 of 2

Field Goals of 30+ yards : 4 of 13
Field Goals of under 40 yards : 6 of 12

1-29 yards : 3 of 3
30-39 yards : 7 of 8
40-49 yards : 5 of 7
50+ yards : 1 of 2

Field Goals of 30+ yards : 13 of 17
Field Goals of under 40 yards : 10 of 11

Well they haven't played the team against which FIELD GOAL KICKERS NEVER MISS now have they?

So their kicker will be 3/3 from 50+ in the game.

Got it.

Despite this, they are 106th in CFB in 4th down attempts per game. Wonder if they'll break tendencies due to a poor kicking game

They aren't going for 4th down often unless game is close. I'm more interested in 3rd down conversions. Look at the teams that's pretty good:
They went 2/11 against ND (Won 24-13)
4/12 against Tulane (Won 31-12)
4/12 against East Carolina (Won 35-13)
0/8 against Houston in Conference game (Won 35-20)

Now, they're playing much better team, Alabama and If the pattern holds, They will struggle to convert 3rd down often. This time they will pay for it.
When they convert often on 3rd downs, they score over 40 points. When they don't, they sturggle to get to 35 points.

Cincy needs to score 45 points to bet Alabama.

SOG,

I want to point out few things.
1) They rarely attempt field goals. The most they attempted was against ND and they went 1/3. Since ND game, They have never attempted more than 2 field goals. The last three games, they've gone 0/4 on FG.

Also, Put Cincy in a situation where they're forced to kick FG in a red zone, and they are likely to miss. 12.82 percent in the Redzone field goal.

They are heavily reliant on staying ahead of the chains on early downs, even more so than Georgia is. If you get them in predictable passing downs they are very, very bad at it (something like #85 in college football).

What I'm gathering is that they'll want to try to run into our brick wall of a run defense. If they can't then they'll have a bad time as they aren't great on 3rd down medium/long and their O-Line is merely serviceable. Our path to running away with this is pretty straightforward. I could see Will Anderson feasting all day

It has been that way for awhile but when the backup AU kicker made the roughly 50 yarder in OT, I am just in acceptance mode now for sure

How bad was Bamas GG teams over the years?
Had to be worse than -18.3, whatever that means.

It's basically the general odds a kicker makes a kick from various ranges. A 20 yard field goal attempt is probably something like 2.6 expected points. A 50 yard field goal attempt may be like 0.7 expected points.

The +/- is the actual total points you got compared to the expected amount. So it's not just telling you if you made or missed field goals, but how hard the ones you made or missed were.

And like you said, we've definitely had some teams where I bet that number was HORRENDOUS.

We were probably -18 just on extra points.
