Rankings are based on a number of offensive and defensive metrics including Available Yards, Drive Value, etc. and is adjusted for strength of schedule using the FEI SoS metric (slightly). As it is still early, the numbers are 72.5% 2023 performance and 27.5% preseason expectation (based on returning production/transfers/recruiting). It will likely 100% season performance by week 6. There are still some outliers from teams that haven't played anyone with a pulse (Minnesota the most glaring).

The formula would currently have Georgia as a 11.5 pt favorite over Alabama on a neutral field and 13 pt favorite over OSU on a neutral.

Does head to head count for anything?

No. FSU is like #42 or something. They beat LSU.

Teams aren't the same every week, especially early in the season and even more so with new coaches.
