Who says there's a QB "battle"? Links? Who said Tua would be the starter before he got on campus? Links? If this blows up in the press in the offseason, it won't be because the fans were talking about it. When has Saban blowing up been detrimental to the team?
The fans are saying these things...and not just on message boards. I've never seen a more entitled group...we'll complain if we win by 30 and we'll complain if we win by 3.
I'm just trying to enjoy this dynasty while it's here. It's great to live in the present and enjoy a wealth of great QBs on the roster...I'm not into manufacturing friction between players.

Give me a single good reason why Jalen didn't throw 30+ times against Fresno State. Give me a single good reason why we suddenly opened up the playbook when Tua came in at 38-0 but we didn't with Jalen up by 31. The opening drive in the second half was run run run run run 4 yard pass run with a 30 point lead. When are we going to give him live ball reps? Why aren't we giving him live ball reps? His passing chart looks the exact same as last year, if not more constrained on downfield passing. His accuracy on streaks is better, but that's the only play call downfield we've done routinely. Other than that we sometimes get the same play once or twice a game where he rolls right with the line and throws a 12 yard comeback. However we're not having him throw out routes, Corners, Posts, and even slants from the pocket routinely. He's not going through your normal progressions and reads. As someone commented, it seems his second read is to just tuck it and run half the time. It's great he has the ability to run but that shouldn't even be his second read on a play. The expectations over the offseason were for him to become an able passer but McElroy was trusted to make more throws than he is right now. It's great we have a loaded backfield but that doesn't mean we don't have an issue at QB in regards to passing and it doesn't mean we should be fine with leaning on it as a crutch. Right now it looks like the same Achilles heel it was last year and we haven't done anything to strengthen it.
idk man, I've seen Jalen hit pretty much every type of throw so far this year. I've seen him go through his progressions. It does not bother me one bit if he makes one read on a slant that's not there, and then takes off for 20+ yards.
Its hard for me to be concerned when our offense is clicking like it is right now.

We saw them do it last season against lesser teams. The only conclusion I can come to is that the coaching staff doesn't feel the need to.
I don't know where people are getting this idea that they're running anything different with Tua in though. It's the same stuff and he's throwing to what looks to be his primary read 90% of the time. He definitely manages the pocket better than Hurts and looks to be a more accurate passer. We haven't seen enough of him to conclude that he's a better decision maker or better at going through his reads.

Pretty much where I am. I've posted every type of throw and a video link a few times now and people just keep scrolling. He has made a few deep, some over the middle, some in the flats, I mean I don't think its out of the realm of possibility to think they are just running their offense plan. Jalen has designed read and run plays where he runs more than he throws, while Tua throws more than runs.

I agree with Boz. I watch a lot of football and I have not seen Tua make one throw that Jalen is not capable of making or better yet has already made. The throw that Tua made on the long pass Saturday that everyone is excited about is no different than the throw Jalen made last year after scrambling, in the first game for a long TD to Stewart.

If you mean this one to Ardarius Stewart then they're not really the same. This is Tua's for comparison. Jalen is able to roll right without pressure and then set up into a long throw that's still behind. Tua is basically throwing across his body last second without setting his feet and it's perfectly in stride.
Now Jalen can throw much better on the deep ball this year and his timing seems to be slightly over moreso than it dragging behind like last year. Tua was also incredibly clumsy with protecting the football on his touchdown play. They aren't the same throw though,
In regards to the "throw it 30 times a game" argument where he hasn't needed to yet, my main concern is we haven't even practiced doing it this year in a live ball situation. If we're suddenly asked to do it playing from behind it's better we have experience than not. I've seen Jalen make some good throws, especially down the sideline, this year but it's the consistency and ability to do it over and over again that concerns me.

Disagree with these passes are the same and a bad comparison in this case.
Jalen's TDs (Both Plays to Stewart are back to back)
Tua's TD
Personally, I do think that Tua has the better arm but isn't ready to start. Jalen needs a lot of work passing the ball. Unfortunately, he hasn't gotten the reps in games where we could afford it. Currently, he is outside the Top 100 CFB QBs in Attempts
It boils down to folks wanting to bring balance to the offense compared to playmaking. The depth and shear talent of our team can beat almost every team on talent alone but against the top teams you have to have balance + talent.

He's a pure QB.100%.Reminds me of Stabler, except quicker in his movements.
I only remember Stabler as a Raider.
Tua has that pocket presence. He looks comfortable in the pocket.Knows how to maneuver to get the pass off.
Something about a Left handed QB.
Next Spring will be interesting.

Four games into the season and you're talking about next spring.

I think he's saying Hurts is our QB this year unless he's injured. No one should disagree with this.
If Tua is much further along as a QB and Saban feels he's our best chance to win, it will come next year or later.
