This used to be practically automatic. Not this season. something is wrong If you can't blow Arky's dline off the ball for a single yard. Even Harris' TD vs Missouri was stuffed at the point of attack. Are Bama's guards that inadequate at run blocking? What's the problem?

Lester Cotton was the problem. He has been replaced.

We could always go back to the old Shula jumbo package

Jumbo package was automatic............an automatic 3 points in the redzone.

We've been an interesting OL group this year

- Fantastic at pass blocking (13th Sack Rate Against, 9th Passing Down Sack Rate Against)

- Very good at avoiding negative plays (2nd in stuff rate, 11th in TFL/G Allowed)

- Very consistently efficient (1st Rushing Efficiency)

- Not great in short situations (39th 3rd and short success rate, 97th inside the 10 success rate, 70th in 1st and goal success rate, 41st in goal line success rate)

I don't know if that has to do with the move to more RPO style blocking or what.

It is a little disappointing the few times we’ve been stuffed in those short yardage situations, however our run blocking has been pretty good as a whole during non garbage time. More importantly the pass protection has been outstanding which is even more important given the offense being run this year.

I've never been a fan of lining up in shotgun on short yardage situations. Ever. Also our running play where the RB takes it and runs parellel to the LOS for five yards needs to be thrown out, too.

Not a huge fan of that one either. However the pop pass play where the WR gets the ball and runs parallel to the LOS and then Jacobs decleats someone should stay.

I don't like being in shotgun down there either. If we continue to do it, then we need to use freaking jet sweeps every once in awhile to keep the ends from collapsing down. For the record, I hate jet sweeps

True, but it's the fact that Bama seems to lack that "we're going right there and there's nothing you can do about it" mentality. It seems to me that when the threat of play action is taken out of the equation (goal line situations), the run game stalls.

Kind of thought Damien hit the wrong hole in the Mizzou game....not gonna blame the OL for that one. If he follows Irv Smith he has a sure TD on that play

i think it has as much to do with the play calling. our run plays consist of off left center and off right center. plus i think we are tipping them off. to many defensive guys crowding the line, in every run up the middle.
