Alabama coach Nick Saban was asked about running back Derrick Henry on the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday. "We’re excited about his future," Saban said. "He’s a hard worker, he’s a fine young man, tries to do everything the right way on and off the field. So we’re encouraged by his progress and we think that he’s capable of making a tremendous contribution to our team in a lot of different ways. Now he’s sort of comfortable in what is expected of him not only in running the ball but running pass routes, catching the ball, pass protection, being a complete player at his position, I think he’s much more confident and feels like he can make a tremendous contribution as well."
Saban sure does praise Henry a lot. I think he likes him.

That 61 yard Oklahoma run IMO was his Herschel-Bates moment.

Sounds like Henry is being seen more as a hybrid than a pure running back. I'm guessing that's partly Kiffin's doing.

I don't think he was necessarily saying he sees him as a hybrid player. You have to be able to run, block, and catch to play RB for Alabama when the game is on the line. Last year he was not ready because he did know the offense well enough to play with the 1s. If u don't understand pass pro u can't run him out there until the game is in hand. He is going to be ready this year.

i dont think Henry is really gonna be used as a Hybrid player. but i do think Saban was saying Henry has more versatility now.
remember when lots of folks said he'd definitely be a LB?
