I get he didn’t want the perception of him tampering with the football program after he retired, but Byrne should’ve insisted that he be heavily involved in the next guy. There’s no chance Deboer would’ve got the job if that was the case.

Saban wanted Houston Nutt to succeed him at LSU. His last couple of coordinator picks weren’t great.
