If you are feeling a little ehhhhh about him, go watch all of Oats interviews on youtube.

That's how I've spent the last few hours. I didn't know much about him. It's still an unknown as to how he will translate to the SEC, but I'm pretty damn happy about the hire. I think it could end up being a home run.

Yea - I like everything I've seen. He's gonna be fun as hell.

Like you said, now we see how it translates to the big level.

Dude is an analytics geek, just a pure basketball mind. I’ve been wanting a coach like that for us since Gottfried started flaming out.

If I had to rank the SEC hires.( I'm going with the front runners at A&M and Arkansas)
1) Arkansas- Sampson, he's a proven winner. Age and troubles could be held against him

2) Texas A&M- Buzz, he's a good coach, but I feel he might be close to his ceiling

3) Alabama- Oats, won a lot at a mid major. He's young which can be seen as a positive by some or a negative by others. I feel like his ceiling is higher than Buzz, but it might take him a little while to get there.

4) Vandy- who cares

Bottom line, the more I read and listen to things the more I really like the hire. He's going to do great here

If Arkansas hires Sampson and A&M hires Buzz, the SEC coaching roster is just absurd.

Yea, I think the Buzz to A&M is a done deal. Sampson could be tricky. Houston can throw money around if they feel like it

But yea, the SEC is loaded. Oats has the ability to be a huge name, eventually. I'm excited. He's a college coach and that's what we've been wanting.

If Arky & A&M land their guys majority of conference loaded with coaches who've been there done that as far as conference championships & big dance wins.
Gonna be some crazy wars on the court next few years.
The SEC will be the premier basketball conference.

Off topic, but do we know yet what was up with the Matta "leak?" Was the media in on it? Was Byrne proving his point to them, or just us? Was somebody just wrong and spread the wrong name?

It seemed orchestrated.

I would if I was close enough. Alas, I spend my local non-Bama Football season ticket money on the Barves.

The attitude problem doesn't surprise me at all. If true about Dazon and Petty, they both need to go. Dazon needs to go regardless of it being true or not. I'd be surprised if Giddens had an attitude problem the way he seemed to buy in to his role and give good effort.

Would love for Kira to stay and see what he can do with some coaching

Just purely from an outside skills to match system point of view we really have a pretty congruent roster with what he does if Petty/Kira return, we keep all the signees and nobody else leaves.

Who knows if it all meshes once they actually start practicing and working, but from afar it's a MUCH better roster for his style than say..........any other Alabama roster post-Gottfried.

They can but they are going to have to basically double his pay and then some if he is our number one target. He was already going to get a raise after this year but will be interesting to see how far they are willing to go. Apparently his son had a coach in waiting type of tag. I wonder if they are willing to let the Kelvin walk and secure his son instead if it gets to high.

Oats needs to go and talk to Kira tonight. He needs to say something along the lines of, "I understand you have questions, but I need you and you'll be my leader" Show him your plans for the program and give him the details of your offense and how he can shine. Basically have to let him know that the team is his next season and everything will revolve around him.

Just from everything I've read and watched I'm guessing he will be everywhere over the next few weeks pounding the shite out of some payment and phone lines.
