Would you guys agree or disagree Kiffin was not a good playcaller in the Red Zone? I know hes gone or going and appreciate all hes done but it seems we could only count on the run inside the twenty. Am I wrong or is it more because of having a young QB? I hope Sark is good calling plays inside the 20.

ETA: Just trying to start some discussion since the board is slow

Our red zone offense has been shite for years though. But yeah, Kiffin gets way too cute especially on the goalline.

I agree he often avoids the simple things but he is 10x better at redzone offense than Nuss...my God.

If you want to see a horrible red zone offense, then go back and look at the Shula years. It took years off of my life

It is a double edged sword my friend. On one hand if Jalen could see the wide open receivers in the endzone and throw a catchable ball on most of those calls then you are probably praising his play calling right now. On the other hand if he had just lined up and ran the ball between the tackles inside the 10 yard line then you are probably praising his play calling right now.

I sometimes wonder is Saban isn't more directly involved with offensive playcalls down there.

It seems too convenient that not one of the last 3 OCs would ever want to call a legitimate fade/jump ball more than once or twice a year. Our play calls seem too safe, almost as if there is a philosophy of settling for 3 is ok, no need to risk anything. I wish there would be more over the middle type of routes - teams seem to always hit Bama over the top in the middle of the field in the redzone, but Bama seems to rarely do it to their opponents.

Think Saban is involved too. We had issues in the red zone with McElwain.

Possible. Saban is conservative to the core and doesn't seem to trust the quarterback. Understandable this year.

I wouldn't be that harsh on him. For starters, how many times have we had first and goal and gotten a false start? Also, I'll give him credit for our "jumbo package" the last two years with the two DTs in the backfield. We're almost unstoppable when we get inside the two and use that package.

It's a thing of beauty to watch how much fun Jonathan Allen has being a lead blocker.

He seemed to hit dieter in the end zone against UF pretty well.

Combination.

None of Kiffin's QBs had much experience. I don't think there's been much trust unless it was a ball to Cooper. We rarely throw over the middle to the TE and I honestly can't recall the last one down near the goal line.

As mentioned, we have a knack for negative plays i.e. penalties and blown up plays. They've all added up to be a recipe for disaster at times. I really wanted to see what he could do with a guy that he brought a long for a few years.

Calm down. Nobody is criticizing your boy. Just stating facts. We are all proud of Jalen and we are excited about his future.

Until I see it stopped that personnel group should be the immediate call EVERY SINGLE TIME we get inside the 5yd line.

Well, maybe 95%. On the first long pass to Ridley to about the 2 or 3 yard line against Mich. St. we were very effective sprinting downfield and catching them in a bad personnel group, and we got a sustitution penalty on them. You can credit Kiffin with that also. Then he brought in the jumbos and we scored on the next play.

I'm quite calm, I was just commenting on the improvement in that department I've seen.

People forget just how bad it was under McElwein. We've gotten better but it's still an area of opportunity.

I am still pissed we didn't run this on 4th and goal at the 1 against LSU.
