Trey Sanders, 5-Star, No. 1 rated running back and the No. 10 Overall player in the 2019 class.
New Browns running back Jerome Ford 156th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Cleveland Browns

Roydell Williams - Hueytown product Williams feels like one of those underrated prospects, at least by Alabama standards as he was ranked #9 in the 2020 RB class.
#21 Jase McClellan was a recruiting coup for Saban, flipping from Oklahoma very late in the 2020 recruiting cycle

Henderson, Miller, plus Young and Haynes have been mentioned in the last and current cycle.

Exactly who else do you think the Tide should have added?
Or who do you think they missed on that could have contributed?

Emmanuel Henderson, Trey Sanders, Camar Wheaton, Roydell Williams, and Jase McClellan were all misses.

Not a single standout in that group. McClellan has been OK. But we are BAMA. We're supposed to have bigtime running backs. This is why the coaches went out and got Gibbs. We used to RECRUIT guys like Gibbs. We used to have at least 2-3 guys on our roster like Gibbs at a time. Case in point, Alvin Kamara transferred because he was stuck behind too many other elite running backs.

I think you’re wrong about McCllellan. Still recovering from an injury and next year will tell the tale for him. It’s way too early on Henderson. Can’t be disappointed in a kid asked to switch positions from a position perceived well stocked to one obviously underperforming this year.

Sanders you can’t judge a coaches hit or miss with his injury history.
Williams, you can argue.

Wheaton? We hardly knew ye!

I will say you picked a good spot in time to bitch about RBs.

Roydell is JAG. His calling card is his physicality but it seems like it's pretty common for one guy to get him to the ground in the open field

Mclellan is good and he's an all around back, he'll play for a long time on sundays.

I want to see Miller get some run. He's a big kid that ran a 10.6 100m in high school. If we'd had anyone worth a shite behind Glen Coffee in 2008 we probably wouldn't have seen a freshman Ingram though. Look at Najee Harris, rode the bench all year and then bailed us out in the Natty with 80+ yards rushing on like 6 carries. We're missing a guy that can pick up 3 yards when the defense knows what's coming, I wouldn't mind seeing if the kid built like an oak stump could be that dude, but I don't watch practice every day day so who knows.

I do know there is precedent for young thoroughbreds sitting the bench at RB for Bama only to bust out at the end and we all look around and ask where TF that guy has been all year. Look at Derrick Henry in the Oklahoma game as another example. It's like if we have adequate enough upperclassmen in that room they are going to play over a more talented true freshman. Don't care about pass catching, pass blocking, or knowing the whole playbook. Sometimes you just stick a kid in and tell him to run off right tackle.

Overall I'm pleased with Gibbs usage though, but i'd like to see some of Roydell's carries go to Miller if I'm being honest, let's see what we've got in him. Shaun Alexander wasn't a great practice player when he was a freshman and it kept him off the field. Then he got in when the lights were on and turned into a prized racehorse

Miller had 4 for 51 against ULM and 9 for 63 against Vandy with the third unit and hasn't touched the football since.

Love his effort. But sometimes he kinda tackles himself.

If he retains his earlier speed, yes. Prototype RB for todays pros.

I’d love to see Miller get meaningful reps in something different from the end of game clock killing playbook. He might be the big back we could use to get that tough yard(s). Would love for Bryce be under center at the snap for that play too.

Yep. Roydell has tripped over his own feet a few too many times. Some young players get too excited out there and their mind outruns their feet. The game should slow down for him, but it needs to happen soon.

But I don't consider Roydell a disappointment. I don't think he was expected to be an early contributor. He gives good effort and has some good physical tools. I'm glad we have him.

The OL has been shitass at run blocking since BOB arrived on campus.

This is the answer that I guess the OP is looking for. Our RB room is absolutely loaded right now, but they can't do anything if they o line doesn't block.

Come on you act like we have zero talent in the running backs room, that is not the case at all.. Also who cares if Gibbs transferred from GT, I bet money you had no idea who he was before he played his first game at Alabama. I mean come on open your eyes we are now in the transfer portal world. These recruits these come in for a year or 2 at the most and if they aren't the guy they leave and can play right away. Of course I would love to be 3 deep with stud RBs like in the past, but its almost impossible to keep that up.

Go check out the roster we have talented 4-5 stars at the position who have to be developed.. Rob Burns is one of the best RB coaches in the country. The development of RBs under him at Alabama from 2007-2017 was out of this world. Stop being a spoiled brat fan we have plenty of talent.

So your answer to the fact that we dont have a single elite running back on our roster that we recruited, is that we have two highly ranked guys who are supposed to be coming in next year as true freshmen?

So let me get this straight. You got so upset with our running game that at 11pm on a Wednesday night, you decided to start a whole thread bitching about basically not having multiple 1,000yd rushers going into game 9 of the season. You ignore the fact that after Gibbs you have two dudes coming off mid/late season ACL tears, a guy that had his pelvis shattered in a car accident where he wasn’t even the one driving, and a freshman that with just 20 touches has 7.3ypc and 2 TDs. You imply this is because of poor recruiting.

Then someone points out we have a stellar RB recruiting class aka we’re fixing the problem you claim exists, you deflect?

Man I hope this is a troll job because if not this is the biggest “bless your heart” I’ve read on here in a while
