Watching MNF at the gym. How did we miss this guy? Dude is a stud. Watching him play reminds me of Rueben Foster in college. Anyone have the scoop on why he didn’t come to Alabama?

He wasn’t good enough and doesn’t have great measurables.
He didn’t start at Murray State until late in his college career. Some guys are just late bloomers.

Saban is probably the best evaluator of talent in college football, but I think he puts too much stock sometimes into measurables. Looking at the 2024 class makes me wonder if he’s shifting a little on that. Few of guys don’t exactly fit into his usual mold of measurables.

Coach Saban says it all the time. Football is a developmental sport. It takes some time. Hell look at his brother. It sucks Bama only got one year out of Quinnen and what an elite year it was. How bad would that defense had been in 2018 without that frickin monster.

It is crazy that some of these dudes come into college looking like they are ready for the NFL and some of them look like they will never see the field and the next thing you know they are drafted in the first two days.

They're brothers. My mother taught them both in middle school. Their mother died of cancer when they were young. I know she is proud. Both of her sons made the NFL and start on the same defense together.

Yeah it is. You like at Quincy Williams college career at Murray State:
Year 1 he redshirts
Year 2 Backup
Year 3 Backup
Year 4 Starter
Year 5 FCS all American
Year 6 Starting in the NFL as a rookie
So over the course of 5 years he goes from a guy that can’t see the field at a bad FCS program to an NFL starter.
Credit to him for not quitting on it. I imagine it was rough mentally to have your brother getting all these accolades while you were scraping on a sub .500 FCS team.

I remember my freshman year of highschool, my brother was a senior. We had two spots in the varsity locker room up for grabs for freshman or sophomores and I was able to earn that locker which meant I had earned the right to dress and travel varsity. During the first game we got up 21 in the first half. Kicked off to start the second half and they put me in beside my brother on kickoff team and my brother hit the returner low and I thumped him good high. I remember my dad on the sideline fence jumping up and down screaming and when we came over there he had tears rolling down his face. I probably hadn't seen him cry more than once or twice before that. Saying that, imagine the pride of a parent watching their boys do that every Sunday in the NFL.

Quinnen went from not good enough to play (i.e. redshirting) to being a top 5 NFL draft pick in 2 years. Even he took a bit to mature.
Missing on guys like Quincy happens. It doesn't mean there's an issue with the system.

Quinnen was opening some eyes even before he started. That dude was quick.
