Seriously. It isn't too outrageous to think he just likes it where he is.

A lot of people have talked themselves in to this job being bigger than it really is.

Agreed

From Beaver on the SECR, a Wichita St beat writer

Paul Suellentrop @PaulSuellentrop
After talking to Alabama people, I think whoever gets that job owes Bruce Pearl a cut. His hiring at Auburn is pushing Alabama. Things might

Paul Suellentrop @PaulSuellentrop
be different with their search if Auburn hadn't hired such a big personality. Howland at Mississippi State, Barnes at Tennessee also factors

Paul Suellentrop @PaulSuellentrop
People are telling me Marshall was debating a tough choice all day. Had to be exhausting for him. WSU made it worth his while and home-field

Paul Suellentrop @PaulSuellentrop
advantage took care of the rest. WSU's knocked off a bunch of top programs in the NCAA Tournament. Also defended Marshall against an

Paul Suellentrop @PaulSuellentrop
equally impressive list of schools in recent years.

Paul Suellentrop @PaulSuellentrop
Alabama threw every bit of its SEC might around, even involving its development staff and Nick Saban's agent, Jimmy Sexton, had a role, from

Paul Suellentrop @PaulSuellentrop
what I'm told. Repelling those boarders is quite impressive.

Shaka is on his way to Texas last I heard. Few, no chance he comes to Bama, none.

Alabama basketball is not a very good job (yet). Grant left a dumpster fire and we play in an old arena with little fan support as of late. Coleman was a ghost town during a lot of the games. Of course, the right coach could change that, but Marshall may not have had another rebuild left in him. It's easier to maintain a program than it is to build one from the ground up.

Perhaps it's time to put the cart before the horse and start with a new basketball arena ASAP. Show that our commitment to basketball goes beyond paying a coach well.

You don't think Few wouldn't at least listen to a 4.something mil offer when he's making 1.2 now...that's it

How about Scott Drew at Baylor? The guy took over a dumpster fire and has them consistently in the top 15 in the country.

Well hopefully Archie isn't pissed because of Bama's courting of Marshall and is open to listening to an offer

If his reputation is true, won't risk probation in basketball, opens repeat offender window which NCAA could use to nail us in football for a relatively small infraction.

I am so iffy on Drew because he is a terrible X and O's guy, but Baylor was the definition of a dumpster fire when he took it over. The issue is that Alabama doesn't have the talent instate that Texas has.

My list is:
1. Archie Miller
2. Shaka

I really don't know who we should go for after that.

I know it might now be as exciting to some but a big time NBA assistant from the Spurs, Hawks, or Warriors would be badass.

I'm not at as upset with insiders. From the sound of it they were pretty spot on. They always said things could change at the drop of a hat and it sounds like at the last minute someone must have called up the Koch brothers.

I absolutely agree. You can't see a commitment to basketball when the team plays in an airplane hanger and there are zero plans to build a new one. After hiring a coach, a new arena should be priority #1. Its time for everyone to quit dancing around that fact.

I usually am first to rip someone who claims inside status...but there was such a universal consistency among all of them that we'd land Marshall that I have to believe they were telling the truth.

Marshall obviously played us like a fiddle from the very start.

What about an NBA guy? I could see a guy like Stan Van Gundy making a good college coach.

And why is Jacobson at No. Iowa getting NO play??

Head coaching record[edit]
Season Team Overall Conference Standing Postseason
Northern Iowa (Missouri Valley Conference) (2006–present)
2006–07 Northern Iowa 18–13 9–9 5th
2007–08 Northern Iowa 18–14 9–9 T–5th
2008–09 Northern Iowa 23–11 14–4 T–1st NCAA First Round
2009–10 Northern Iowa 30–5 15–3 1st NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2010–11 Northern Iowa 20–14 10–8 T–4th CIT Quarterfinals
2011–12 Northern Iowa 20–14 9–9 T–3rd NIT Second Round
2012–13 Northern Iowa 21–15 11–7 3rd CIT Semifinals
2013–14 Northern Iowa 16–15 10–8 3rd
2014–15 Northern Iowa 31–4 16–2 2nd NCAA Third Round
Northern Iowa: 197–105 (.652) 103–59 (.636)
Total: 197–105 (.652)

Of course, he got a new 10 year extension yesterday, but the last salary figure I saw for him had him making $550,000 per year. Even if they doubled him, that's still chump change.

I like him as a coach. As long as he could recruit at least as good as Grant with better roster management, I think he could do well.

Not sure what his interest level for Bama.
