For those talking about the Pearl job, I know for fact we weren't going to hire him, even if we had fired Grant last year. I can't say how I know, but I know. That being said, everything that is happening now is happening because the people with money demanded it. Did Pearl's tournament run influence that? Quite possibly. While the AD and BOT make the final decisions on hiring and firing, the big donors are pulling the strings. Money always gets the final say.

Too much talk.
I agree that may torpedo the deal, but Marshall is pretty good at deflecting questions about his future from what I have read about him. I cant imagine Battle would make this as public as it has become without some kind of back channel affirmation that Marshall was seriously interested.

I have no inside info but I know we would not have pursued a coach with NCAA baggage. No way Pearl would be in Tuscaloosa.

With Howland gone now, we better not nosedive if Marshall says no. We should go straight to Shaka Smart and offer him the same deal. And then Archie Miller after that. If we don't come away with one of those three guys, then I'm leading the march to get Bill Battle fired

I don't get this. It's like the moral superiority of being above hiring such a coach because Auburn did it. We take players all the time who have made mistakes. Lying to the NCAA is one of the dumber ones you can make in college athletics, but second chances are a plenty when it benefits us. When it's a rival, it becomes "we didn't want him and wouldn't have hired him," which is a dumb call if we took another year of Grant over Pearl. You can call him a sleaze, but he sells the program and wins. What Pearl did in the SEC Tournament had a direct impact on us making a change. We made a change because the culture is changing. If we had kept Grant, Pearl would run circles. There's a reason every other fan base wanted Grant to return.
If we land Marshall, it doesn't matter. But if we settle for a bloop single hire, it'll be hard to ignore the opportunity we missed by settling for Grant.

Have you listened to Parrish's new podcast. Just curious what he said about all the Marshall stuff today.

Smart isn't worth the same deal we'll end up offering Marshall.

Wichita State plays at 6:15 Thursday against Notre Dame. Win and they play Kentucky/West Virginia Saturday for a chance at the Final Four.
FWIW, their game against Notre Dame opened as a pick 'em.

Nah they haven't released a new Eye on basketball podcast yet and his show in Memphis is from 4-6.

He's worth a hell of a lot more than either Steve Prohm or Michael White. And if that's what we get left with, then we should have just jumped on Ben Howland.

George Mason candidates include Murray State's Steve Prohm and N.C. Central's LeVelle Moton, sources told ESPN.

Yeah I just listened to it. Parrish essentially said our biggest competition would be Texas, not Wichita.

All I'm hoping for is a coach who can recruit TRUE big guys with muscle and the ability to rebound and hit 10-12ft jumpers.

And he will take the Texas job over the Alabama job. He wouldn't even have to think twice about it imo.
