I think what gives us a chance in this situation, is that all of these coaches at "mid major" schools who are driven competitors have to wonder "What could I do at a big school, with unlimited resources?" That, and a couple of extra million per year.

Hiring Marshall would make me so happy.

Plus as a competitor the idea now that you have Pearl in-state and Howland an hour away in Starkville has to be enticing.
That could go both ways. Why leave Wichita for that when you can sell the fact that you just beat Kansas like a drum?

Bama will make him say no, can't hurt to try. Bret Bielema left Wisconsin after winning Big Ten titles and going to the Rose Bowl every year.

BB and FB are two different animals when competing for a national title at a mid major.

True. One of my friends made a good point. Why spend now to counter Auburn when we could have acted last year and stopped them from hiring Pearl? It does seem like we're scrambling and going all out to make up for what Pearl has already done.

I feel you, it's just everybody keep asking Why would he leave Wichita State.

with our past hiring Pearl with a show cause may not have been a good thing. AU is teflon it appears

I don't buy that. We failed to react when Auburn did. Now, we're paying for it.

Because the NCAA loves to screw midmajors. They got shite on last year by the committee by the teams they put in their bracket. There was no way that team was going to win out. There was also no way in hell they should have been a 7 seed this year.
The SEC becoming a better basketball conference makes the job more appealing.

What has Pearl done exactly?
What should we have done to stop them from hiring Pearl?

Pearl generates excitement and sells. He took Tennessee to #1 and had them as a legit contender. We all know that the rumors started in November of 2013 about him wanting back in the SEC. We stood by Grant, Auburn hired Pearl, and now we're hiring a big name to counter that. My point being, fire Grant and go with Pearl and no way Auburn is even on the map as an up and comer in the SEC.

Good thing the SEC is changing. We got left out at 12-4 and second in the conference not too long ago. Wichita State doesn't have to fight for respect. They have it and will keep it as long as Marshall is there.

That's the comparison I've been thinking about. If Arkansas Football can lure a successful head coach away from a Top 25 program, then Alabama Basketball can do the same.

Pearl was never an option for Bama under Battle. Same reason Howland isn't/wasn't being considered.

Howland and Pearl are two different stories. Howland lost control, Pearl lied. Is it a risk? Sure, but it has paid off well for Auburn. Even with a losing record, they head into next year with momentum on and off the court.

Having let a solid choice in Howland go without an offer, I have to think that Battle knows something about a big name that leads him to believe we have a better than even chance to land him
oh better

Wichita ends up as a 7 seed while Arkansas gets a 5 seed despite all of the metrics saying Wichita is a better team.

There is a reason Howland has been turned down almost every job out there.

Again I ask how? Because their best player got hot in a tournament and they beat some bad/mediocre teams. That best player is also leaving.

Wish we could have kept the Marshall thing quiet until after his season is over. Too much talk.
