JMO, What does Jalen bring to the table that Tua cannot? Really nothing - except experience and practically no turnovers (INT's).

So, if we are going to run the ball more against Clemson and play action pass - isn't Tua the better guy to play - at least some during the game? Tua can run and hand off just as or nearly as good as Jalen.

You've brought up a valid point. Also The best way to slow an aggressive pass rush is quick hitters. Tua has a much quicker release than Hurts, Tua also is more accurate on his throws. Jmo.

I have zero doubts Tua will play in this game. We will see the quick boundary throws, throws over the middle to the TE and also to Jacobs out of the backfield. Then the run game starts thus setting up play action.
You heard it here first folks! (g)

I would be shocked if Tua plays a significant amount of time. He may have packages but I would still be floored if he did play a lot.

Here’s the deal. Jalen has come up with some clutch plays (LSU and Clemson last year. MSU this year and he was encouraging against LSU this year). However, he is mostly not very good with throwing the ball. Give him a tricky RB out of the backfield play not seen before and he’s good. But ask him to drop back and pass when you have to have a play, when protection breaks down, the D knows a pass is coming or especially if the DBs are good, and we’re screwed.

The differences in Tua’s passes and Jalen’s are very noticeable. Tua leads the back on swing passes. No slowing down. No having to turn and catch the ball behind him. Tua leads receivers on routs. No having to slide down to catch the ball or try to adjust to a poorly thrown ball. Receivers get the ball in stride and go.

Jalen has improved immensely since last season. Receivers absolutely do drop some catchable balls (Ridley killed us in the Iron Bowl on a back shoulder that he just dropped). However, I think some of that can have to do with the quality of the throw. Furthermore, while Jalens passing is better, his decision making is not much better.

Jalen is not a horrible q.b. He’s not even a horrible passer anymore. But, I don’t think he’s good enough to beat Clemson. Everyone knows that Hurts does not bring a legitimate passing threat to Alabama’s offense. A good offense must have more than one dimension.

I’m counting on Tua playing.

If he doesn’t and our offense struggles and we lose, well ..

Let’s just say someone needs their head examined.

Jalen will play, he will look good and Alabama is going to shock the world and win by 2 TD's.

There is a reason why all the public money is going on Clemson while all the smart/big money betters are putting their money on Alabama.

And it ain't because they think Tua is going to start or play.

It’s amazing that people think that this is actually going to happen.

If Tua plays it means that:

1. Jalen got Hurt
2. Clemson’s killing us and Saban puts him in as a Hail Mary.
3. We’re killing Clemson and he’s in for mop up. (Obviously the most unlikely.)

Y’all honestly think that our true freshman QB who hasn’t started all year and who’s only played mop up duty against cupcakes is going to ball out against the #1 team who are the defending national champs? Be reasonable.

Jalen might have a terrible game but Tua will get killed. Unless one of the three scenarios I listed happens (or some crazy shite like Hurts getting arrested happens) Tua isn’t starting until the Fall. Period.

This board has an inside source.

And he says Tua plays.

And how you do you figure Tua would get "killed" ?

If our offensive line doesn't step it up that Clemson DL is going to be harassing whoever is back there all night. I think maybe that's what he means. I do think Daboll needs to help the line out with his play calling.

As much bitching and moaning as I hear about our Oline, whenever I watch the NFL, the QBs have practically no time whatsoever. They drop back quickly, scan the field, and chuck it - all in less than 3 seconds

This is why so many are blaming the QB at this point

And QB play in the NFL is very bad for the most part, even with the rules of play incredibly heavily skewed to favor the offense.

If you think our OL is getting the job done in pass protection, especially on the right side, you are watching different games than me.

2.7 seconds.

A QB is supposed to secure the ball, drop back scan the field, select a target and release all in 2.7 seconds.
That is the standard.

A QB that needs 4 or 5 seconds will make any line look terrible. There is no legal block that lasts 4 seconds.

And to act like Hurts was regularly given a clean pocket for 3 seconds is being disingenuous. I’ll never tell you that Hurts was great this year. He wasn’t. The line play wasn’t very strong either. The play calling has been iffy. That’s the problem with some of you. You don’t want to discuss the entire problem. You want to lay all responsibility at the feet of one player. It’s terribly transparent.
