Did I say "rival fans" or did you make an assumption from my clear statement of some of you turning into a parody nationally?

Me too. Then I hope he wins Vanderbilt one. Vandy would be unstoppable with his skills.

I'm pretty sure even if it got out that Tua was going to start the game, Dabo wouldn't be shaking in his boots with his elite defense having to face a freshman QB, c'mon guys...

I hope they are just getting Tua ready to either play a couple series or just be ready to come in if Jalen struggles (most likely scenario).

Boz,
Sorry to ask you a question off subject, but are you hearing anything about Pruitt an UT?

He's not going to go out there and implode either. Over the course of the game he will slowly just not do enough to win. Just like against Auburn, there was never a definitive moment to bench Jalen until it was too late.

This is the truth.

It's not that Jalen is the worst, I'm just afraid that he's not good enough right now to consistently beat good teams. I'm glad that he can be relied most of the time to get out of trouble and turn a sack into a gain of 2-3 yards, sometimes more. But eventually, your QB has to do more than just avoid mistakes, he's got to win a game.

All jabs aside, this is my opinion. I certainly don't think he's a BAD QB, overall. I just think to be a truly great team, we need a QB a little better in the passing game. I have nothing at all against the young man, himself. Only a minute percentage of people in the world are good enough to be a very good college QB. I couldn't do it, for sure. Maybe Jalen improves and someday is that great passer. He's just not right now, and right now is when we need him to be.

My God, our fan base is irrational. Hurts has lost 2 games through his true Freshman and Sophomore campaigns. Hell, the only QB to wear Crimson and not be constantly scrutinized averaged more losses per year with just as good if not better defenses.

You can call him a below par passer or even throw in the adjective "bad" if you want to, but don't associate the guy with losing. He's been everything but since stepping on campus. We have a legitimate chance to win the championship with him, and if you don't think it's possible then I really don't know what to tell you.

Yes it’s true but stop acting like he’s the reason we’re winning these games. The vast majority of games he’s played we would have won even without him. I’m not disagreeing with the rest of what you’re saying but it’s annoying when people associate QBs with wins.

Wins and losses are not individual stats.

Cam Sims won the same number of games in those two years.

if your D makes a stop against Clemson last year, this discussion isn't even happening

If the offense didn’t go 0-12 on 3rd downs on a point in the game maybe they wouldn’t be so worn out to do so. The loss is way more on the offense than on the defense.

Or, if our D isn't on the field the entire second half because our offense can't get a first down.

Why is this so difficult to understand? Sure, the defense could have played better. But, we had a GREAT defense. It just got worn the frick out by a great offense that was on the field most of the game, in part, due to our offense not sustaining drives.

We also had key injuries on both sides of the ball last year and its a team sport and the team got beat by an all time great college qb who also had a strong defense.

In a game that close I can point to a dozen different "things" that could have been done on both sides of the ball that could have changed the outcome - and not a single one of them would really mean anything.

ETA: not @ anyone in particular.

Tell that to the fan base that constantly ranks McElroy above Blake Sims as an all-time QB.

OK, but I'm also telling it to the people that use wins and losses to prop up Hurts. And, that's the discussion here, not McElroy and Sims.

I'm not trying to turn into a negative guy, but I think Alabama was very fortunate that a lot of the teams we played weren't very good offensively. When I look ahead at the offense(s) we'll be up against in the playoffs, I don't see them missing the opportunities that LSU and MSU did.

In other words, in the playoffs we won't have the leisure of being inconsistent on offense.

It's also annoying when people associate them with losing. Hence the entire reason for my post.

Well, I think most of his detractors were discussing this long before we lost. So, it was his actual play that was being critiqued, rather than the wins and losses. After we lost, lots of others who thought he was great have jumped on board and admitted that his lack of passing is hurting the offense. Those people you'll have to deal with yourself. I've said all along his passing left something to be desired.
