I've just gotta comment on that NYC cardiac arrest story.

The idea of not transporting patients who do not have a Return of Spontaneous Circulation (called ROSC) in the field is not a new one. It is already the norm in many places and given their current trends it will likely become the American Heart Association's recommended practice in a few years.

Fact is, if you don't get them back in the first few minutes you aren't getting them back at all or the family will be getting back a loved one that now has the functional abilities of a houseplant - and in terms of procedures and meds there's nothing an ER doc will do that isn't in a paramedic's scope of practice in most (probably all, I just can't say for sure) of the US. We're partway there in Alabama now in that we don't attempt to revive blunt force trauma victims in cardiac arrest. It's something that is hard to adjust to when for decades you've been throwing them in the truck and hauling arse to the ER. I'd have probably reacted poorly to the suggestion too before I started teaching CPR for a company that really pushed out a lot of the cutting edge research studies for us to read.

Here's an EMS article from 2013 that cites several studies supporting the "don't haul if you don't get them back at the house" protocol.

Lot of words to say what they're doing in NY may be new for NY, but it isn't new for EMS. Also, 10-20 people working an arrest in the field? Wow, must be nice. In a place like Montgomery you're getting the ambulance crew, a couple of guys off the FD rescue, and MAYBE an engine company. Eight or so guys tops. In Elmore county, you're getting the EMS crew and maybe a couple of guys from the local VFD. In really rural Alabama you got the 2 guys on the ambulance.

NC over 3500 cases now and 64 deaths. But the recovery rate for those that had to be hospitalized seems really good. We did se a huge surge yesterday but multiple retirement facilities had it run through them so expected. 92 out of 100 counties have reported cases. Not sure how accurate is regarding the counties as many are those mountain counties on TN border and those people do not trust outsiders, doctors, and media. Also several counties have locked their county down with checkpoints and barricades preventing anyone from leaving or entering.

I am glad you are a left wing tree hugger and support your right to be one but your continued attempt to make the virus a political issue because of your political views may find a better avenue to vent your frustration on the poli board. Just saying

In the words of the Speaker of the House, "It took us 2 and a half years, but he'll be impeached forever."

Definitely legit.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm going to pass on to pass on it, especially when our president politicizes it every afternoon during his press briefing.

And so does every other politician in Washington DC including your beloved Pelosi.

The point is you have made it clear you swing to the left and that is your choice but your continued attempt to seek validation is not going to find any resolve here on this board. Your tirade regarding your political angst is duly noted.

There is another poster on the board that might be able to help you relocate to Costa Rica.

What makes you think I love Nancy Pelosi? There are only 2 politicians in DC I have deep respect for. The rest suck.

I don't need validation from a bunch of faceless strangers on the internet. I'm confident enough in my beliefs and conviction. Feel free to ignore my posts if they bother you so much.

Someone needs to be introduced to the First amendment to th US Constitution.

Or the Second. Whichever it takes for them to understand that isn't acceptable.

This is supposed to be an informational thread about the coronavirus in Alabama. Everyone cluttering up this thread--on both sides of the political spectrum--should be ashamed.

They are as they are practicing their right to speak by telling everyone to stay out. If anything they have lost their right to freedom of religion due to the state issued orders.

I am sure that most own guns and it is the police in those mountain counties who have locked it down and probably related to most in the county.

Need to understand the dynamic in those type of counties where their families have been living a lifestyle for over 200 years most would consider a hardship. Many feel they do not need outsiders determining what is in their best interest and to be honest are probably right to an extent. But in regards to virus who knows how the numbers may be skewed with very little info coming out from there.

Definition for validation-recognition or affirmation that a person or their feelings or opinions are valid or worthwhile.

You post do not bother me and in fact provides entertainment. But since you take every opportunity to voice your beliefs that does not demonstrate confidence. It shows the need to validate. You have made it clear your feelings on Trump and how the country did not respond correctly and I am sure there are many others that feel the same. No need to continue on with your tirade on the subject by posting your opinion each time unless you are still trying to convince yourself which would contradict you confidence as well in your convictions.

When the mod gets involved in the political posts, this thread is doomed. It's been a very good thread on this forum specifically about Alabama coronavirus issues, but now it's turned into a spewing of personal political views that have ZERO to do with this thread. I've requested that a new thread be started just for those type posts and let the posters vent their opinions there and leave this thread to be the informative one
