The State of Emergency in the city of Bessemer has been extended thru Tuesday, May 5. The order closes city facilities and follows the state mandate in limiting activities in city parks.

I have seen a few suggestions on Twitter that intimate that this virus seems to target people of color more aggressively. Lanett(Chambers County) is a predominantly black town, and this particular church is predominantly black from my understanding. But I'm not sure there's any scientific data on why that may be the case, if it is in fact the case.
We have noticed the same thing regarding seemingly higher incidence in the African American community. But is it something genetic or something environmental or socio-economic? Nobody seems to know or can pinpoint.

Black folks in the US are predisposed toward cardiovascular issues and diabetes a little bit more than white folks. I'd guess that is it.

AAs have a larger number of people with heart and diabetic conditions I think is the reason , so it hits them harder

Many of the huge clusters in NYC that have been traced/reported to date are Orthodox Jewish and Ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities.
The Ultra-Orthodox ones are easy to understand if you live near and see how many have been going about large religious gatherings etc like nothing was happening.
Some others, like the New Rochelle NY area, don't seem to have any rhyme or reason.

Has there been any identification of where the clusters of cases in Jefferson County have originated? Is it related to UAB, some other event/location within the County, or is it simply a function of population density?

That was a bunch of bull crap they put out last week about Alabama projected deaths. The question is, was it intentional.

I haven't seen anything on where they think the JeffCo cases originated, nor any demographics on those affected. It would be interesting to see.

I don't think it was intentional, but rather just not enough date inputs to accurately model. Now that more info is available(tests, positive results, negative results, hospitalizations, deaths, etc) the models are becoming more accurate and not as serious looking.

I just don’t see how that’s it. Alabama wasn’t the only state with limited data. South Carolina and Missouri also had no stay at home order and a similar case number. And the similarities go all the way back to March 13th. Yet Alabama’s numbers were drastically larger and more ranged. I’m not saying Alabama should have had the same numbers, it’s just how drastically different it was compared every other state. I doubt it was intentional but it’s likely something went wrong with Alabama’s numbers.

LINK ]Live updates: Boris Johnson admitted to ICU; U.S. coronavirus deaths surpass 10,000 (Washington Post)
quote:
As the official U.S. death toll surpassed 10,000 — standing at 10,530, including 4,758 in New York — Surgeon General Jerome M. Adams warned that this will be “the hardest and saddest week of most Americans’ lives.”
Meantime, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, sick with covid-19 and suffering from a persistent cough and fever, was moved to intensive care after his condition worsened on Monday afternoon. Elsewhere, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been under quarantine since last week, and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) has reunited with his wife, Ann, after two weeks of self-quarantine.
Here are some significant developments:
New York, the nation’s coronavirus epicenter, might be experiencing a “flattening of the curve,” Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) said. The state reported 599 new deaths, on par with Sunday’s death count of 594 and down from 630 on Saturday.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that, due to the hundreds of people dying daily from the novel coronavirus, officials may resort to “temporary burials” to deal with the strain placed on mortuary services and funeral homes. The mayor said the city was prepared to bury covid-19 victims where they could later be tracked and removed for burial elsewhere once the crisis has passed.
In an effort to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus, the U.S. Army announced that it has temporarily suspended sending recruits to basic combat training. The two-week stop goes into effect immediately.
U.S. and global stock markets soared as investors took in overseas progress against the coronavirus. The Dow Jones industrial average jumped more than 900 points, or 4 percent, at the opening bell Monday. The Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index and the Nasdaq composite index also moved steeply higher.
Canada’s top doctor cited new evidence and recommended wearing “non-medical” masks outside the home. Governments around the world are shifting their guidance, with many now recommending or requiring the general population wear facial coverings when leaving the house. Previously, they’d been recommended only for the ill or those giving care.
