That can (and has) happen here. It hasn't happened since the late 1990s (Don Siegleman (D) gov, Steve Windom (R) Lt. Gov) because Alabama is first very conservative and second doesn't have a functional democratic party.

Did not know that. In NC either party can run for office as each office is considered separate unlike many states where they have to run on the same ticket. I assume other states may do that as well but not familiar with those.

I was asking what about him gave you high hopes.

I have friends that are acquainted with him and like him personally.

Of course, that's always to be taken with a grain of salt. I knew and liked Troy King before he became AG - then he got the job and I saw the person he really is.

The saying power doesn't change people, it reveals them is absolutely true.

Be interesting to see if that Birmingham ordinance gets overridden.

In 26 states, the lieutenant governor is selected on a ticket with the governor, meaning that lieutenant gubernatorial candidates serve as running mates to gubernatorial candidates, with the winning gubernatorial candidate's running mate becoming lieutenant governor. In eight of these states, there are separate primaries for governor and lieutenant governor, with the winning candidate in each primary appearing on the general election ticket. In the remaining 18 states, gubernatorial candidates may pick their own running mates in a similar fashion to presidential candidates. In 17 states, the lieutenant governor is elected separately from the governor. In Tennessee and West Virginia, the title of lieutenant governor is given to the president of the state Senate.[2]

Lt. gov. nominated in separate primary and elected in separate general election (17): Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington

Lt. gov. nominated in separate primary but runs on a single ticket with gubernatorial nominee in general election (8): Alaska, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin

Lt. gov. chosen by gubernatorial candidate before primary and runs on a single ticket with gubernatorial candidate in both the primary and general election (8): Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Utah

Lt. gov. chosen by gubernatorial nominee after primary and runs on a single ticket with gubernatorial nominee in the general election (10): Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Nebraska, New Jersey, South Carolina, South Dakota

Lt. gov. is a member of the legislature (2): Tennessee, West Virginia

Lt. gov. office does not exist in state (5): Arizona, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, Wyoming

Did not know so looked up and found it interesting. Especially states without and TN and WV who have LT Govs but are actually elected by the state leg. So 17 states can have a bipartisan governors office.

He hasn't done that. He's simply acted like the first position never happened.

Elect him if you want. I bet you won't like what you get.

I will vote for any Republican over Ivey. I'm sure it will be better.

There's really no need for Alabama to even have a Lt Governor since it holds little to no actual power and very few responsibilities. It's only real responsibility is presiding over the State Senate. To that end, the governor's office doesn't hold much power in this state.

Seemingly limitless power right now though.

Yeah, it's one of those rare circumstances where the governor actually can flex some muscle.

People think it can’t get worse but it absolutely could if that loon Zeigler finds his way into the Governor’s mansion. He’s the manifestation of every caricature of what an Alabama politician is supposed to be. If it’s between him and Ainsworth, I will enthusiastically vote for Ainsworth.

I wouldn’t put it past the voters of this state to do something like though. The fact that we elected Ivey to a full term and are about to elect Tuberville to the Senate shows that we’re capable of anything.

Some states that are reopening parts of their economies have warned employees that they'll lose their unemployment benefits if they refuse to go back to work for their employers, even if they're worried about contracting the coronavirus.

"If you're an employer and you offer to bring your employee back to work and they decide not to, that's a voluntary quit," Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) said Friday. "Therefore, they would not be eligible for the unemployment money."

Reynolds also said employers who have workers that refuse to return should file a report with Iowa Workforce Development.

quote:

The only exception for workers getting unemployment after not returning to work is if they are ill with the virus or taking care of a family member who has the deadly disease.

Same thing in Texas

quote:

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, to qualify for unemployment benefits in the state, a worker must be “willing and able to work all the days and hours required for the type of work you are seeking."

quote:

Cisco Gamez, a Texas Workforce Commission spokesman, told the Texas Tribune that employees who choose not to return to work will become ineligible for unemployment benefits.

I mentioned before this will happen. A lot of Americans do not have access to child care with schools closed and will not be able to work. The orders at least provided protection for those in that situation now they will not any.

Yes they can claim they are sick but since many are told to just stay home for 14 days how can anyone prove it who is and who is not at this point.

I don't understand you people that won't wear a mask in public. I do it every day. My job requires me to wear one at work. I keep one in the car and put it on if I get out of the car or go to a drive thru. It's not an N95 in my car (it is at work), it's just a cloth mask but it offers SOME protection. Every little bit we can do to help not spread it that isn't unreasonable seems like a smart thing to do. Please explain why some of you feel it is an affront to wear a mask.

I am not if yo are just posting a comment or replying to me. If to me I have no clue what you are talking about.

In regards to the mask it provides no protection to you but helps you from spreading it to others. Just an FYI.

For me and my family we do not got out to any business other then the occasional curbside pickup for food and groceries since the middle of March. We have not entered any business during that time. We do go outside daily and where we go never see people. When I do stop for gas or curbside I do wear a mask. No reason to go inside anywhere or congregate.

Now if I could find a way to force my 5 children here at the house to provide me with some distancing at times I would love it.

I don't really get it either. I don't wear one outside, but do when I go to the store or to pick up food somewhere.

Okay you got me. I really wish we'd eliminate the "State Auditor" position completely. People think it has something to do with auditing, but the reality is the State Examiners are the the auditors.

And you are absolutely correct, the mask offers me very little protection, it's more for you than me. Nobody knows for sure if you are a positive unless you've been tested.

One of the nursing homes I work with has 87 cases as of yesterday. We sterilize everything that comes back from them now, but you never know. That's why I don't get the people that won't wear a mask. I'm not doing it for me, I'm doing it for you.

I’m still trying to find out why Central Park is open but parks here in Homewood are closed & roped off like a crime scene.
