Ok good, very nice. I just hadn't seen anything on it yet or read it on the Tuscaloosa main agenda.

Tuscaloosa is adopting a new brand name called "The One and Only". I saw it on the billboard on 82. Thought it was pretty neat, but I still like the Druid City moniker.

"The One & Only" is Tuscaloosa's new brand name.

quote:

That’s the message behind Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports’ new brand name for the city, unveiled Tuesday before the Tuscaloosa City Council.

After 14 months and $7,500, the city’s tourism and sporting-event recruitment group is today rolling out “The One & Only,” the new brand name for Tuscaloosa.

An additional $100,000 is going toward spreading the message through advertisements in newspapers and magazines, television commercials and billboards that will go up in each of the city’s seven council districts.

5-star hotel finally gets 2nd approval and will begin building the new hotel along the Black Warrior River soon

quote:

Final approval was granted unanimously Tuesday for the construction of a luxury hotel along the Black Warrior River.

The Regent Club of Tuscaloosa will be a $32 million, 135-room hotel planned for Rice Mine Road.

Robert L. Schwartz and his company, Atlanta-based National Ventures Group, intend to build the hotel on a 3.7-acre parcel of an overall 35-acre, mainly wooded tract just east of The Cypress Inn restaurant on the northern bank of the river.

Planned for six stories, the exterior would consist of brick and cast stone and is expected to be constructed above the 100-year flood plain elevation of 154.2 feet.

Utilities will go underground, and the parking lot is designed for 160 spaces, which is more than the city’s zoning rules demand, but is meant to accommodate high-traffic events like college football games.

Site plans also call for a bar, a full-service restaurant, an outdoor gazebo and terrace that offers views of the river nearby, an outdoor pool and accommodations for future phases of the city’s Riverwalk recreational path.

Had no clue they closed. Probably didn't do a ton of business outside of Friday and Saturday late night

Well, I've been actively talking to business owners around the state about franchising, one of the business owners I talked to was Wingers Sports Grill in Montgomery. I'm not sure he would move to the Strip (though that being Tuscaloosa's main entertainment district, it would bring a ton of business), but I'll give him a call to see if he's interested. Talking with him before, I would say he's more prone to opening up at the Shops at Legacy Center, but he would then have to compete with Wing Zone

It is always packed on the weekends. Having another late night option in the old HH spot would be great

I get what you're saying, but I think adding another diner to our main entertainment district would be kinda disappointing. Just my opinion, lets say a restaurant like Wingers comes, that's another place the students and people who visit on gameday, to come eat and drink and watch football. Huddle House isn't a place I would want to eat if I'm there on gameday and I'm wanting football food.

So what's a good place to watch the game in T-Town? I've aged out of the MDB, and I couldn't find a place to stay in Dallas, so I'm missing an Alabama game for the first time in years.

What are some good recommendations? Literally ALL of my friends are either going to the game or going home, and I don't want to watch the game by myself.

...........Pathetic, I know.

You're good. Personally, I like to stay downtown. My favorite bar is Willigans, because they have a good French Dip and a good selection of crafts (The Monty Python is really nice). Plus its spacious, and even when its packed, its not as congested like the other bars in T-Town. Black Warrior Brewing Co. is a great spot. There's a new place opening called the Wheelhouse Pub that's on Temerson Square, that is like Dave-n-Busters.

Honestly, it all depends on your taste. I'm not a guy who goes for the large college scenes on the Strip where you're shoulder to shoulder with everyone, but can still cheer for 'Bama. Inisfree is a nice pub, Harry's Bar, a lot like to go to Mugshots, Temerson Square downtown as a whole is nice, and then if you don't like the downtown scene, go to Southern Ale House on McFarland.

On Thursday for opening kick-off, I'm going to downtown Northport and eating at one of their great eateries with my family.

Like I said, it all depends on what you like. Tuscaloosa doesn't really get the recognition it deserves for the progress its made over the past 5 years. There is a ton more to do and a lot more place to hangout than it used to. The scene has really changed.

I keep my desk drawer well stocked during football season. Yes, I visit my office regularly on game day.

I'd go with Innisfree or Houndstooth.

For any of you non-alcoholics, there will be a pretty cool event at the Goverment's Plaza. Its all about sober tailgating (just pregame before you get there, or head to Insifree afterwards), but will give out all sorts of prizes and shite.
