O-T

Y’all think that the XFL coming back gets Birmingham to pull the trigger on a new stadium? It would get decent use with the XFL in the spring, UAB in the fall, the USL team, a bowl game, and the Magic City Classic

Had no idea it had been passed yet. Good to hear.

Also the downtown grocery store plans have fallen through, but there's talk of a restaurant or bar going in that area.

Widening of Hwy 69 starting in April.

Tuscaloosa News

quote:

Construction to add a third driving lane to Alabama Highway 69 South’s northbound and southbound lanes could start by early April.

Work to convert the existing emergency lanes to travel lanes is expected to be complete later this year.

This is one of a number of projects meant to alleviate the expected traffic congestion stemming from the $60.2 million project to improve the intersection of Skyland Boulevard and Alabama Highway 69 South with an elevated bridge over the intersection that will allow Highway 69 traffic to pass through without stopping.

Looks like the entertainment district could be set for weekends only.

Also, Hooligans is looking to open up another location around Tuscaloosa. They're still going to remain at the same site.

Yeah, signs are already up. I think it will be opening soon. Just over the bridge on McFarland on your way to Northport. This will give them 3 locations.

City council approves entertainment district

quote:

The vote went against the wishes of downtown residents, but in favor of tourism and business leaders, who in recent weeks have voiced their support for the creation of a weekend entertainment district, which would relax alcohol open container rules.

The council also agreed to revisit the matter in six months.

Just booked a room at Indigo for 2 nights next week. Are Indigo, Embassy Suites, Home2, and Capstone still the only decent hotels in town?

Pretty much. Rest are motels.

There is a new Residence Inn by Marriott going up on Rice Mine Road that will be a nice addition when it opens but it is not quite ready yet. Should be open this year sometime.

Is that the 5-star hotel that was proposed a few years ago? I remember it got approved, but haven't heard much about it.

No not Indigo. There was a 5-star hotel approved a few years ago across the river and I don't know if it was ever built
