@Andrew_Gribble: CB Geno Smith was on the practice field but wasn't working with first- or second-team units. More coming in practice report.

Ivory practiced but was limited

-- The offensive line continues to tinker with its five-man front. During the second period, Austin Shepherd was back at right tackle and Arie Kouandjio was back at left guard.

Someone on another board said Arie gave up several sacks on Saturday which is why he's back at Guard

-- CB Geno Smith, who was arrested Sunday and charged with driving under the influence, was on the practice field, but he was sitting out drills in which he's typically an active participant. During the first period, he did not work with Nick Saban's group of cornerbacks. Instead, he was with a handful of walk-ons and players who haven't seen the field much. Later, he watched as safety Jarrick Williams filled his spot at "Star" with the first and second teams. Saban will update Smith's status after practice.
-- LB Trey DePriest, who was suspended last Tuesday, returned to the field and was back to work with the inside linebackers. Tana Patrick continued to work with the first-team nickel defense.
-- WR Amari Cooper was back with the wide receivers and did not appear to be limited by his strained foot. He did more during today's first two periods than we saw him do all of last week.
-- NG Brandon Ivory was with the defensive linemen but appeared to be limited. He wore a brace on his left knee, which was twisted during Saturday's scrimmage.
-- DE Jeoffrey Pagan didn't appear to be bothered by the shoulder he injured Friday.
-- RB Alvin Kamara (knee) continued to wear a black, non-contact jersey. He was working with a trainer before he hopped on the stationary bicycle.
-- CB Deion Belue was working with the first team as it practiced its nickel defense. He continues to wear a "strap" on his leg to heal his aching hamstring.
-- The offensive line continues to tinker with its five-man front. During the second period, Austin Shepherd was back at right tackle and Arie Kouandjio was back at left guard.

Wilson Love was back at practice too
Surprised there's not another CB that can step up and play Star. May have a safety at that position like the 1st half of last year.

Well, Jarrick was the plan going into the season, and we have injury concerns with our top 2 corners, so we need Cyrus and Sylve to kinda focus on backing up Fulton and Belue.
That being said, I think eventually a guy like Mo Smith will be able to step into that Star rotation, but Jarrick is a vet that should be able to step right in. He's also an upgrade over Vinnie in terms of coverage, right?
ETA: I meant going into last season on Jarrick and the Star position.

I would hope so. Was Jarrick in the plans for Star or Money before he got hurt last year?
Posted on 8/20/13 at 4:59 pm to sarc
Well last year before he got hurt Jarrick was suppose to start there anyway. Depending on how we look at the beginning of the game it will be interesting to see if he stays in the game or Saban puts in Mo Smith in to get some experience.

Glad Geno is only out for VT. We will sit the starters after halftime anyways.

Saban's presser.....
-- "It was good to get back to work today." He liked the players' energy and enthusiasm after two days off.
-- Focus remains on fundamentals and improvement.
-- Attention to detail was cause of problems in the scrimmage and remains a focal point going forward.
-- Preparation hasn't begun for Virginia Tech or any opponent.
-- Classes start tomorrow. "I think it's important guys get off to a good start."
-- "That first day of school usually affects their focus a little bit in practice."
-- LB Trey DePriest back at practice. DE Jeoffrey Pagan back, too.
-- WR Amari Cooper will be worked back slowly.
-- DB Geno Smith suspended for the first game. Has other things to take care of "in house."
-- Saban said this is Smith's first transgression.
-- Saban says he gathers information, talks to the person, talks to his parents before ultimately making a decision.
-- Saban on Reuben Foster: "He really has made a lot of progress ... made a lot of plays in the second scrimmage."
-- Foster's reps are increasing.
-- Saban said DePriest has to work his way back up the depth chart. Did all the necessary things to get back with the team.
-- Saban had heavy praise for Jarrick Williams, who was working with the first team at "Star" today.

Well majority of the corners that we have are smallish. I think we need someone in that position that can hit the QB like Javy did. Surprised Geno didnt get a look.
