Can't give my sources. Just spoke with a friend who talked to him earlier today. According to Varidal, he was going home.

Damn it, guys. I have the 5:30 shift tomorrow morning and this is going to keep me up tonight. Heck, even if he was injured, I'd love to have him doing crazy stuff on the bench.

Yeah my honest hopes for him weren't really that high but it was more for the stuff you mentioned.

If he is indeed gone, I'd rather the story of him getting into a fight with Grant be true over him being too injured to play. At least that means he went down swinging.

ETA: It's medical reasons: LINK

With Varidel unable to go, it makes it that much important that Mitchell can provide those 10-15 minutes and be an effective shooter off the bench.

I think that's a strong possibilty, but it doesn't necessarily have to be Mitchell. We need AT LEAST 1 of Coleman, Mitchell, Norris or even Cooper to be at least a solid 3 pt threat (~35%) with Varidel's lost minutes. That's assuming that Tarrant, Hale, and Levi are also around 35% or greater.

I think Mitchell's personality bodes well for his ability to shoot well as a freshman. The kid seems to ooze confidence and basks in the lime light.

I went with Mitchell just because I think it's pretty much guaranteed Coleman will be getting a lot of minutes and that Norris will be playing the 3/4. I guess I was just referencing Mitchell because of the SG position.

If Hale can keep shooting fairly well from deep, he's going to put up huge numbers this year. I wonder how far Kessens's range extends?

@ESPNAndyKatz
SEC Media poll: 1. UK; 2. UF; 3. Ark; 4. LSU; 5. GA; 6. Ole Miss; 7. Mizz; 8. Aub; 9. A&M; 10. Ala; 11. Vandy; 12. SC; 13. Tenn; 14. Miss St

I'm not being a homer when I say this, but we have talent on this roster. I think people are forgetting we now have Tarrant and Kessens to go along with a good recruiting class. I expect a top 6 finish.

I don't blame them for sleeping on us. In fact, if I wasn't a fan of this team, I would probably expect us to be below average again too.

I like where people are gauging us right now. These players need to be hungry and feel like they have something to prove.

Having said that...all aboard the Sweet 16 .

Norris won't be helping this year. I'd be surprised if he ever helps. You just don't get SEC ready playing Marshall County comp.

Playing good competition with Team Thad makes up for poor high school competition. I don't expect him to make a big impact this year, but I definitely think he will in the coming years.

Is this going to be the season long thread...with game updates/scores etc?

I would think each individual game would have its own thread but I see this thread going the whole season with updates and notes like you said.

Here's an article about our poor attendance last year. Rare that someone actually does a 1 on 1 interview with Grant. LINK

OK.

Only 2 and half weeks...before the rape train comes to a college campus near America.

Can't wait to see what the team looks like this season.

Eye opening quote from the Tuscaloosa News article.
quote:

“I’m probably a guy that is more focused on controlling the things that I can control, and that’s building this program and taking care of people in this program who I need to take care of,” he said. “I also have a wife and four children that I have a deep commitment to in terms of making sure that they also get some of my attention and time, that’s something I value that’s really important to me. “I can’t be good at everything, I can’t excel at everything. I think everybody in life has to have priorities in terms of what’s the most important things to them. Would I like to be able to go and speak at a lot more different things to promote our program? Certainly I would, but there’s only so many hours in the day, so much time I have.”

If that's the case, then he never should've left VCU. I can respect a man who doesn't value his career over his family and I have heard nothing but great things about Anthony Grant the person....but he's getting paid $2 million a year to take the Alabama Basketball program to an elite level. If he isn't fully committed to that goal then he needs to step aside.

That quote definitely is going to rustle some jimmies. It did that to me at first, but the main thing it boils down to is winning. If he was actually winning, no one would give a shite about him being a hermit. Him not promoting the program just speeds up the restlessness when his tenure has been what it has been up to this point.

Then again, our deep tournament run this year is going to quell all animosity from our fanbase during his tenure
